Hi folks.
6 months ago i decided to dive into this infamous Pestilence album, because something kind of clicked with this one.
I first worked on a song, tabbed it from scratch, then another, and one thing leading to another, here it is, the whole album.
I hope you'll enjoy it, and maybe reconsider your opinion if you always hated that record.

First of all, a teaser.

Boom here it comes.
Tritones everywhere, twisted riffs, weird bridges with synth layers, and a quite fast second solo.

What do we got here. A repetitive verse riff, kinda bouncy, but as soon as the bridge + chorus + "post-chorus" come, we dive into the twilight zone.

For the intro, the second guitar on the studio version is almost inaudible. I used live versions and rehearsals (available on the 2018 remastered edition) to get something somewhat similar. The riffs got lots of string skippings and are kinda painful to play when you're not warmed up. And the bridge is really disturbing to learn.

Yeah this one is very obscure. No clear rhythm reference, no real melody easy to remember.
But i had to play it all, interludes included right?

Now the technical challenge. Or should i say the string skipping challenge. This song is my least favorite of the album, i find Mameli's voice quite annoying (i mean, more than on the other songs), but admit that some of the riffs are killer (the chorus one especially). Oddly i think the hardest part to nail was the outro solo.

The jazz fusion one. I had some trouble to figure its tuning out. I first recorded it in standard tuning with the original song on backing track, but at some point in the solo my guitar seemed to be slightly out of tune on the high notes and it pissed me off. I didn't notice it at first and by listening to the result several times it became obvious. So i found out the song was in standard tuning on the clean intro, and switched to standard tuning + 15/100 of a step higher for all the rest. That tiny gap is discernable on the high notes, thats why it didn't hit me at first.
So i re-recorded it, after having modified my backing track, lowering it for about 15/100 of a step (except for the clean intro), for it to match the standard tuning. And here we go.

Second interlude, with loads of violoning.

Now the song that has a few covers on youtube already. I didn't use any of the others' works, i tabbed everything myself. You may notice some differences between others' shots and mine, mainly during the chorus. I identified 2 separated guitar tracks, really simple ones, but i thought it might sound better if i tried to play them both at the same time. Also, i played the first measure of the synth solo, which is a mess to tab by ear, so i kinda improvised it The result is quite close i think.

This is the first track i tabbed and learned from this album. At that point i was not planning on covering Spheres entirely.
This one includes really sick parts, like the riff at 1'40". The solo is tricky as well.

Phileas is a bass interlude, but i managed to transcribe it for guitar. In order to replicate (vaguely) the sound, i used a non-electric guitar.

The last one. The break riff + outro riff demand accuracy

So this is not music-related, but i was browsing Patrick Mameli's FB page since a week or so.
The guy shares videos claiming that "space is fake", calling them "truthbombs". I have to admit this is a huge disappointment. Not that its going to stop me from listening to Pestilence, but wow Never bothered to read Pestilence lyrics, but the album artworks make me think of sci-fi stuff. Who on Earth is into sci-fi and thinks space & planets & stars are fake?? WTF this is insane.
