Vocals, done! My throat is killing me, not in an injury way, but just in a "haven't done this much work since doing biweekly shows and daily band rehearsals" kinda way.

that's awesome! I have some jamming to do tmwr, maybe I might get something done afterwards. Working on a new sludge/doom/drone band with 2 other guys.

I have a personal deadline set. I don't want to submit before the first. Just in case I want to make improvements before then.

CorpseFister's got almost half of the synths done for the part of our song that I started (so the whole song is about 75% recorded). Our recording deadline is also the 1st :)

I recorded about 40% of the vocals for my song tonight. Coincidentally, the coyotes were yipping outside while I was recording, so I figured I'd open the door and record a few seconds of them and add it to the end of the song just for fun.

That sounds sweet Clogged. I finished my vocals as what I had planned on doing but afterwards thought about some additional shit so I'll go back and add that later.

So I'm gonna have to drop out. Ended up having some other bands get pretty busy/had to write and record an EP for a different project at pretty short notice that ate up a load of my time. Wasn't too happy with what I'd written anyway, haha.

Cool, so that's at least 6 submissions, which is a pretty good turn out for such an epic challenge. Getting psyched to hear them!

Got my song all recorded and mixed now, just have a couple small mixing things to do before submitting.

I don't mind listening even if it's something I hate. I'm happy there was this many submissions. I was afraid it was going to be just me and clogged sharing files back and forth basically

That's really up to the host, but I'd love to see what you can do in the two weeks left.

I submitted mine pretty early - all the way back in October. I didn't have a lot of time. I actually was recording guitars the night before my 2nd child was born... and then it was mixing with one hand, holding baby boy in the other. It probably worked out for the better because had I not the tight schedule, I may still be working on it and surely would have fucked it up by now.

Haha or overthink everything as well. I'm just now mixing, I just finished the intro and once I finish the main song then I'll see if I have to change anything with the intro. it's nice and odd.

and yea claws good luck to you!

This might have already been covered, but are you wanting the songs exactly twenty minutes or at least 20 minutes? Thanks.

well this is bullshit, i was hoping to largely get it done today but my bass track didn't fully copy to my jumpdrive so I have to get that tmwr.

haha it's very important in my songs I don't hide it away... well not all the time, it's nice and clangy this what Ihave here is not even a minute of it and I know it recorded all of it cause it was playing when I was doing secondary guitar parts. I'm just going to mix everything up and throw that in after the fact that min of bass is enough to tell me I don't have to do much of anything aside from adjust the volume of it

I'm in the final mixing process as well. I'm kinda glad I kept it and didn't submit it upon first finish, because I found some things that weren't quite perfect. Mainly leads that sat too quiet in the mix and a vocal track that wasn't eq'ed to the part I had it in. I may give myself a couple extra days from my intended submission deadline to sleep on it, because I want it to be as great as I can get it.

Edit: I will still be submitting it before the contest deadline. Just in case I may have misconstrued my intentions.

Oh I knew what you meant, you were going to submit like a couple of weeks ago or whatever but decided to wait and rework and fix some shit. I figured once you were done I'd be getting a file :)

I got it pretty much all the way mixed last night to it's final stages... obviously minus bass, and minus the intro tacked on, that's mixed but I'll put the two together once I get that bass track today. Once I do that I'll then burn a cd of it and make sure it's all balanced. I'm quite happy with it all thus far. I know there is a bit more clean up on the secondary guitar parts in adding some verb to the solos, knocking off the trailing in and out feedback and what not. Overall it was a much quicker process than I was thinking it would be.

I got the main body of the song recorded! That was really more difficult than I was expecting. The longest thing I have done before this was 16 minutes and this is a really great thing to challenge us. I so glad I did this. I have to write the vocals today and hopefully will get to record those tomorrow. (Tuesday is my vocal recording day because my daughter is gone most of the day. lol.) I will hopefully be able to add the second guitar and leads by the end of the week.

That's awesome progress!! The longest thing I had recorded to date was 25mins, this as the main body I did in a single take was the same. add in the intro and it'd be the longest.

Just finished my first draft mix, maybe I might have struck gold and got it right immediately. Burning a cd to listen tmwr.

Listening, bring up the guitars overall, push back the bass a bit and I'm set.

I did it all in one take as well, but after listening back to it, there are some sloppy (putting it nicely) guitar parts that i should punch in and fix. LOL. Also, this was my first time working with synth sounds. Every time I found a sound I liked, I put it in and realized it sounded like OMD or something. I think I'm just going to pick one and stick with it. This is driving me nuts!

well you have 9 days! I'll post a video of the drum tracking for the main part of the song.

I know! LOL. I just kept wanting something a little spookier. I have been through a ton of sounds and I'm keeping the low end like that, but I think I'm going to use a church organ for the higher octaves.

Cool. I don't know what you're using but if you're looking to get something a bit spookier maybe try adjusting the organ patch by looking for the LFO and using it modulate the pitch so you get a warbly vibrato effect. It's likely already got some LFO stuff going on to get an organ sound, but it might be worth tinkering with.

I finished recording last night. Now time for mixing! I mixed a bit as I went, but I fucked around with a wide range of pitches and timbres so it's gonna take some doing to balance it all.

I tracked the vocals today and will record the second guitar tomorrow. I think I'm going to bring the vocals down a lot more than i normally would in the mix to give it a little more of an instrumental feel. It seems like that would work out better on a longer song. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I might just be talking out my ass. LOL

Got em both, well saw that you both did, i just need to download them when I get home!

I did my second mix down sounds better, probably throw the guitar up a bit more and then it'll be good as gold and I might edit the ending it could stand to be trimmed by 30secs.

I listened to my thing again and heard some things that really bothered me, so I redid it. Is it cool if I send in an updated version?
