Not what many on here would consider metal, but back when I played geetar the first song I learned was "The Beautiful People" by Marilyn Manson. Gotta start somewhere, its very simple :)

Well the right hand is everything in thrash metal. Learn any early Metallica/Slayer/Kreator you like, and make sure you get em as tight and heavy as the originals.

A good start is basically anything from Kill Em All and Bonded by Blood. I always say a good heavy metal song to learn is The Trooper. Just the right balance of difficulty for a beginner.

I agree, Kill Em All has a lot of good beginner songs. Ultimately if you want to improve your technical skill you should keep your practicing regimen the same way you keep your stock portfolio: diversified. There is no one magic metal album you can learn to make you a good player. There are quintessential thrash songs, black metal songs, death metal songs, neoclassical songs etc. you should learn if you want to get a full range of concepts on the guitar. Some will be good at teaching you double stops, tremolo picking, pinky independance, chromatic playing etc. etc. all of which may appear in one album but won't really prepare you without further application elsewhere.
