I would really like to learn this song, but I can't find any tablature for it. I was hoping someone here could tell me the tuning, to narrow things down a bit. Thanks.

Sounds like A. Whether it's drop A or A standard I'm not sure.

I agree, down to A and from what I've heard from the song it won't matter whether that's drop or standard. Since I don't know how to post tabs without messing up the alignment, here are the notes for the start:

A B C
A E
D E
D B C
C A B
Pick scrape.

(P.S. if anyone would like to chime in how to do the tab thing I'd appreciate it, since more people are familiar with tab. I know it has to do with the / code thingy)

Thanks for the posts! This will really help me figure out the song.

From what I've seen, most tabs are posted as multiple hyphens, with the name of the string in front of it, and the number representing the fret:

D--------3------1--
A-----2---------1--
E--1------------1--

Something like that.

For some reason I can't remember I feel like there was some benefit for doing it like this:

Code:
D--------3------1--
A-----2---------1--
E--1------------1--

Maybe it prevents text wrapping?

I'm not sure, but I don't think that text wrap would be a problem.
Also, is A tuning two and a half steps down or three?

A is 3 steps down. and I say it's probably A but something keeps pushing me to say it's B. My friend works with one of the guys I can ask him

I think you're right about the non-text-wrapping in code tags, and it also formats the text so that every character takes up the same amount of horizontal space.

Ah ok, thanks, I just played the notes that Apteronotus posted on my guitar using A then B tuning, and I'm getting a much better sound with B tuning. With B, the power chords sound very similar to the chords in the song.

I'm 99.9% certain that it's in A, not B. Apteronotus is pretty spot on, except the last 3 power chords before the pick scrape are B A B, not C A B.

It could be in drop A then. To my ears the key sounds like i's in A.

What? Isn't A standard three _and a half_ steps down?

No. maybe A flat if you go that far down.

and yea like I said B. The reason I say that I play in A standard so much and going by the notes that were supplied... 1 on E would sound far more burly. even with different gear and guitars just the depth isn't there which is why I thought more so B.

... but E down one full step is D. D down one full step is C. C down one full step is B-flat, since there is only a half-step between B and C. B-flat is A-sharp obviously, so you have another half step down to go.

I am sorry if I'm missing something really elementary here.

I just go D, C, B, A So I guess I meant 4. I haven't played in E in so long that I think D is regular tuning for everything. either way I this ain't in A.

So what tuning is Drop A? For a 6 string guitar, I've read that you tune the guitar down a perfect fourth from standard E (which is A standard, right?), then tune down the 6th string another wholes step down, so then would drop A be this?
B D G C E A

I don't think that tuning is right, but you should look it up. A perfect fourth down (I think) would be B-standard. that would go... B F# D A E B. Then you drop down the last B to an A.

Yup. That would give you drop A. And you are correct that A standard is three and a half steps down from E.

DirtyDoomRiffs, are you tuning your guitar down from E without changing to heavier strings? That's not going to work well if so, they'll be almost falling off the fretboard at that point. I ask because you mentioned getting a much better sound with B tuning and I am wondering if that means your tone was turning to garbage because the strings were too loose.

Ah ok, thanks for clearing that up, aweheio!

Yeah, I'm using the same set of strings, and I was using standard A tuning, and the power chords sounded discordant. You're right, my strings were too loose, and that's why B tuning sounded better.
I'm going to give Drop A tuning a try, and I'm going to have to get heavier strings!

Edit: Yeah, I'm going to have to get heavier strings, Drop A doesn't sound good with EB Regular Slinky strings.
