And now I can focus on finishing up my other black metal songs and releasing a full length album!

Just got back from vacation, suffered a car wreck on the way back and I'm back home now. I won't be going out of town for 2 weeks like I thought I had to. So I might actually be able to squeeze one song out before the 10th.

Just tremolo pick an e minor chord, cover it with a blast beat, and sing about satan. Instant microwavable black metal.

Blast beats and sad riffs. yeah!

Got the drums memorized and will start recording as soon as I can figure out how to record multiple wavs at once with Reaper and my tascam. The song is two 6 minute parts with an ambient part in the middle. Gotta get the drums and guitars recorded soon so I can start writing keyboard parts and lyrics.

Well i want to do something that doesn't sound too much like some material I utilize in my other bands like Vomitwolves or 54R at times or Mykridia or Ishimura. All have large chunks of blackened riffing in them. I want to kinda push something out that's more than just the simple dressings of typical black metal. cause hell I can sit and trem 2 minor chords for 7 mins throw in some acoustic bullshit and call it a wolves in the throne room album.

This is probably what I'll end up doing since the one I intended to use won't be finished.

Well anyway over monday, tuesday, and today...
Wrote & recorded drums, recorded all guitar tracks and bass, wrote lyrics and recorded all vocals.

Tmwr there is one more thing I want to add as far as recording and I'll give it another listen and see if there is anything else I want to add. after that It's all just a huge mix job to get it to sound how I want.

I'm very pleased thus far.

Sorry pals, I've shit the bed on this one. I'm in the midst of recording a new album with my new wave band, plus my guitar is fucked up and I don't have the skills or bills to fix it. Figured this would be a fun diversion but motivation is low and it's clearly not gonna happen at this point.

Best of luck all, I look forward to hearing with you guys come up with!

Sucks to see people dropping out!

Finally got the tascam and Reaper installed and working, so I recorded drums earlier today. Then my win7 laptop kept crashing with a blue screen of death so I had to record guitars with my old mixer on my old computer. Gotta try to fix that stupid crashing...

I have written some riffs that I really like, but haven't found any sort of arrangement that works. I went for something I don't usually do with my theme, and it's been enjoyable. I haven't been able to find drum parts that sound right though, I even brought my drum machine with me to work on a slow day and tried to work it out, but without success. Right now I'm thinking about just recording guitar tracks over a click and trying to fill in the rest. The problem is that I found a perfect tone with my amp, but when I get home from work around 10pm it's not a good time to crank a guitar amp, nor is the morning a good time to get into playing black metal.

I'm going to try to put together some sort of workable draft as soon as I can. I might not meet the deadline, but I'll do my best to finish this song because the theme led to some cool parts that led me into trying things that are way beyond what I was expecting. It just doesn't seem right to work with this over standard drum beats, but I'm not sure what to do at the moment.

Hi everyone,
I've finished the rough mix of my song "Large Cigar". I'm not completely satisfied by the result, so i'm gonna try to remix it in a more detailed manner. I will upload the best mix I can obtain in the coming days.

I probably won't have the time to record my second song.

Well at least you finished one song, it's more common for most people to just never finish it. So good job.

No there are plenty more. all the songs are presented at one time by the host of the challenge. you can send your mix to him.

Finally I managed to record some vocals. I recorded instruments like two weeks ago, but I've been sick for over two weeks. It wasn't really good idea to try to sing anything when your throat is sore and you're constantly spitting out balls of slime. Well, atleast I managed to buy myself a new condenser microphone before recording as my old one broke like a month ago.
I'll mix and send it tomorrow if I don't suddenly realize that I need to re-record something.

I plan on mixing tonight, probably won't finish it all but I want to knock out a lot of the primary grunt work.

Alright, I've got 95% of my track down, I just need to add some missing vocals and some additional layered guitar, and I'll be done. Can't record vocals until the 10th though, which is kinda frustrating.

Looking forward to hearing everyone's songs. I'm doing keyboards tonight and vocals tomorrow. Saturday I've got a family thing, so I'll try to do some late night mixing and I'm sorry if I submit it on the 11th, but I'll be 100% submitting. I've given up on my laptop for now, so I'll be using my 12 year old computer for the rest of the song, which is hella slow for longish songs.

Nah, it's probably going to be 13-14 mins. Is your song real long, or do you have a lot of layers for over a gig of files? Black Metal was a really fun genre for this challenge!

Mine is around 9mins. lots of layers. 4 solid guitar tracks meaning 2 for rhythm with their alternations, 2 for leads and extra shit, 2 more for extra extra horseshit, one main vocal track and then a few extra for doubles n shit.

Agree with black metal being a good choice. I'm surprised it wasn't done earlier, honestly.

There was a black metal theme once, well just do a black metal song. I did two they were pretty mediocre and my vocals were fucking horrible.

Okay, so in the true kvlt spirit of black metal, you're rebelling against good music by writing meh music. Call it mehsic. Or BLACK MEHTAL!

SHIT! I don't know how I missed this. Luckily I have the next two days off work - hopefully it's not too late to get a lyrical theme?

I recorded my second song today. I might be able to submit 2 songs by Sunday. Both will be very short (less than 2 minutes each).

I was actually sober when I wrote that. However this being veteran's day weekend I plan on getting nice and sauced in honor of like the 43987532 generations of my family that have served. And I'll even finish up all that damn black metal I wrote!

Looking forward to hearing the final results of this one.

More or less.

I developed a tendency to write short songs (between 1'30 and 2'00), because I assimilate short songs to good songs. Here's the explanation: when a song is too short, I feel like playing it several times to memorize the riffs. Playing several times the same song is a sign of quality. That's why I now tend to diminish the number of riffs (to keep the best) and the times I play them (to prevent them from getting boring).

In the end the result might sound immature. It's difficult to be my own judge about that.
