Got my first riff and slam section done. I had an awesome riff that I thought up, but forgot it so i'm pissed about that. Oh well.

I might give it a crack, if I can find time to record it all will be swell.

I might be interested in taking part in this challenge...how would you feel about me basing a song off a riff I've had kicking around for a while (don't worry, it's just one riff I have, I WOULD still have to write the actual song) ?

Just curious, but if its all in FL there wont be any guitars, and isnt that stretching the definition of BM a bit far?

Haha! This sounds like fun! I wish to join. And as you said, there is no limit to how long the song is, so I will probably make one really long one, and one medium length one. Looking forward to writing this!

It also kind of undermines the efforts of those actually recording their work.

Technically, you could just take a song that you've had for a long time and get around to recording it, though in retrospect, that's kinda cheating.

as far as feeling like fl is undermining the other people's efforts recording their pieces- I don't really feel it is but if you don't want to acknowledge it when you are listening to everyone's work at the end of the comp feel free to say so. I didn't want to completely rule anyone out from doing something if they are inspired to do so.

I also didn't feel the utilizing of an old riff was really cheating either but again I guess it's all in a matter of how you personally feel if it's cheating, hell if you didn't tell anyone no one would've known any different!

I'm very lax on the rules and guidelines since it's not like we are going for a big win of cash and prizes. It's just something fun to get people into writing and trying things they might have not done previously.

Well to me, it's like me submitting the midi of the song I wrote because I don't feel like recording it or I want to write something that completely exceeds my skills.
Either way, it's submitting something that you're not and to me it just feels cheap and doesn't really sound very great.

well... this is songwriting contest, not a recording & production challenge

so, submitting a song in FL is okay, as long, as it's mp3 and BM

You can count me in on this. Hopefully my computer will be back up and running when it comes time to record. (The Linux partition where I do all my recording and mixing just disappeared and I have to use a deep scan of the hard drive to find it)

I did the same, and it was shit too :P

Anywho, update: I've begun writing my ambient black metal song. It's VERY reliant on choirs, and I'm using my 12 string acoustic for most of it.

I have to figure out the VST bus system thing for cubase. I have no idea how to make my Lexicon Alpha record through other programs. I can record, but I can't hear what I'm playing when I go back to listen. Annoying stuff.

jesus the recording problems pop up again.

I'm still having difficulty. I just contacted personous and I'm looking through adobe's site to see if I can find something useful. I might have to bump my thread again...with all the information I can.

I'm really trying not to reformat it since I have no clue where a boot disc is for the OS. I don't know where my driver install disc for the firepod is either.

I seem to be losing everything.

while I was at my shed getting the information of errors on my laptop to research I pecked at a couple of riffs.

crazypaean999 I added you

Have you tried uninstalling all the drivers for your firepod and then installing the latest ones fresh from the website? I had to do it that way with my audiobox; if I tried just updating it would crash my computer every time.

I'll give that a shot since I'm not sure what else I can do.

I can't totally unistall my firepod support since I don't have the disc to load it back on since I have seemed to lost it somewhere. And i've looked for the bastard. I'm losing my goddamn mind.

I will now start posting again regularly, ( for those who care, which probably no one  ), and seeing as the original song writing challenge idea was my own, and this challenge here was written by me, and then edited by Shaolin, I will be working on a third challenge, which will be a huge improvement over both the first and second

So as you all participate in this, I will be designing a bigger and more structured challenge, to be set a couple weeks after this one ends

What I would like you guys to do, is message me with any ideas you have for criteria, any ideas you have for the rules or things that you think could be improved upon, and I'll take the good points of the first and second challenge, and combine them into the third, so that it is the best yet

If people are still interested in my challenge

So, I had a flash of inspiration yesterday, and I started writing a blackened death, I think, song called "Legion". It's funny, because I was just messing around, pretending to be performing live (don't say you've never done it, I know you have) and I came up with the riff.

A lot of the time when I'm writing I'm in the mindset as if I was hearing the riff live/ performing it live.

I have a couple of ideas for a song but I haven't really worked on anything. i'm going to reformat my computer tonight.

Ok, please no one should complain about this, I can compose music , but I don't play guitar so I'd program it (it doesn't sound any bad). I'll start writing from now If you like to. It's something Between black and death (my vocals are so deep that's why I am saying death, other wise it's black) metal with some leads (synth , guitar) ....
CAN I PARTICIPATE THEN ???
Edit: I'll create everything on arabic scales.

Well as I see it, it's a songwriting challenge, not a song performing challenge, so go ahead.
