Just wanted to know if there is an effective and cheap way to record drums. Not easiest or fastest way, but the one that needs the least number of microphones, or any specific acustical spaces, etc.

Like if for example, I wanted to record drums with just a couple of microphones, in a small room that has just some random stuff laying around. Would this be possible? Which is, say, the minimal amount of microphones one would need to get most of the drumming? What would be a decent acoustical space in a home recording situation? Any chances of creating one?

Also note that this would be used in an ambient black metal project so hi fidelity wouldn't be so necessary.

For appropriating a space in your home for recording, check out this thread: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=91179

Ideal minimum number of microphones for drums is four - kick/snare/two overheads. You can do it with fewer, plenty of bands have recorded demos with one microphone for the whole band, you just have much better means of controlling the recording when you have microphones for each thing that you want to record. There have been a few threads on the forum with lots of good advice, you should be able to find them with a search.

Try the "Recorderman" technique for 2 microphones. It works pretty well and can capture the whole drum kit.
