I know moderators can edit reviews at their desire and usually for HTML errors as the notice that says this appears when a review is edited at the top of the page when a moderator edits your review, but lately Gutterscream has been editing some reviews of users in some ways I'm not exactly fond of. He changed a few of my review's wording to stuff from like "demo" to "ep" (even when the release I was reviewing was actually more best-described as a demo) among other things. I'm sorry for making a bit of a fuss out of this, but I just like having my reviews submitted the way I submit them. I even had to edit and resubmit a review because the edit he made was something I didn't like. I don't mind some grammar fixes, but I'm not too happy if you're changing the actual wording of my reviews.

And why not PM Gutterscream in the first place?

He doesn't have an email up or any way to contact him, otherwise, I would have. And plus another moderator encouraged me to raise this predicament up at this forum.

My apologies then.

You can always PM him through the forum. I don't think he's particularly active on this part of the site anymore, but it's worth a try.

As for me personally, I come across a lot of egregiously stupid bullshit in otherwise acceptable reviews, but the only time I ever intervene myself is if there is like, one typo or one formatting issue, otherwise I reject it and let the user know whatever the problem is so he/she can avoid it in the future. I'm confident the rest of the mods take this approach as well.

Yeah, BH, same for me. I don't remove any content even if it's awfully stupid.

Could you leave him an administrator message about this?

I've told him to check this thread.

Just got this message now (and I've been on all week around this time).

Guardawakening - I apologize if I inadvertently changed something in your review to reflect anything other than your opinion. I don't edit content, only common grammar, spelling, and the occasional halting of a run-on sentence or two. I do this only for reviews that are acceptable as far as content goes, but the grammar sinks the ship. If the grammar's too poor, then I just reject it. I only have so much patience. Can't say I remember changing 'demo' to 'ep' (the most I would normally do is decapitalize it from 'EP') in any review, but I could certainly be wrong. Just trying to help more submissions get accepted rather than rejected.

Funny. I do it the other way, since it's an abbreviation... Methinks it should be capitalized, but you're the native guide, so perhaps I should not argue this.

Eh, I guess it's up for grabs. It's just a minor thing, like putting song titles in quotes or all capping album titles. I'll leave it capitalized. Hey, it'll save me time in the long run.

I'm probably right about this, but you're likely being way more righteous and wise, and I will not argue any more.

EP should be capitalized as it is an abbreviation, it's even in a dictionary! :P

Hey, when you're right (Zodijackyl), you're right.

Post subject:  Re: Are mods allowed to do this?

I might reiterate for the sake of the users reading this thread, but mods are only given the power to edit reviews for issues of grammar, formatting, or spelling as is appropriate for acceptance here. We do not alter opinions or writing style, or the little nuances you do in your writing that would otherwise be acceptable. Some mods may choose to do these types of edits, some mods might not do any edits at all, though the onus is always on you - the reviewer - to ensure that your review fits our guidelines for acceptability.

In short, think of us as janitors, not as dictators. The latter is not our role.

Yeah but thing is when my wording on the review from "demo" to "ep" was changed on the review, it actually was uncapatalized. And Gutterscream, thanks for apologizing. You may continue to fix my grammar just please don't change my wording anymore.

No problem. Wouldn't want anyone changing my reviews either.
