Post subject:  Questions before I submit reviews

Hello, just a few questions as I plan to submit reviews.

1. I plan to start by submitting a few reviews that have appeared elsewhere. They are of course 100% mine and I legally own the rights to republish them but I don't want to be accused of plagiarism. I didn't notice anything in the submitting form here where I could warn the mods in advance that the review was previously published. Should I just not worry about it, submit the review and wait until I am asked for proof? Or should I contact an administrator here before submitting?

2. The rating percentage number... are there any extra guidelines regarding this? I've noticed some ratings don't always match my perception of the actual review. For instance, a user might say an album was good and rate it 68%, while another review might say an album is mostly just forgettable songs and rate it 72%. I can manage with my own logic but I was wondering if there were community guidelines?

3. Once a review has appeared here, is it possible to edit it later? Or does it create extra work for mods?

Sorry, I'm sure some of those questions are pretty basic but I couldn't find the answers.

1) include a note in your review, like mine here

2) At your discretion. I think 0% or 100% are "hurr hurr, I'm raising/lowering the score!" though, there's a fine line to discover and use. But in the end, the content is the most important.

3) You can edit it, but it's going back in the queue to be approved again. You can edit the score though.

Bonne chance, si tu as des questions/commentaires, tu peux m'écrire.

Really? I think there's a lot of called-for usage of 100% and 0%, although especially the former is handed out extremely liberally by some users.

100% and 0% are just as valid as anything else, and in fact have been devalued quite a bit with how often they get thrown around, particularly the former, as Ilwhyan said. In fact, I'd be curious to see the stats, but I'd be willing to bet that 100% is the most awarded score, or at the very least third place.

It was my opinion. I also said "at your discretion". I think giving 0% or 100% are statements or fanboyism myself.

Which is why I awarded the Huntress album with a 5%. I kept away from both!

There's no real community guidelines on album scores, but it does help when you put a grading scale on your site profile. That way, if someone is curious about your scaling, they can take a look and see how you, specifically, operate.

For me, I tend to grade albums as a school teacher would. E.g. 70%+ good, 60-69% mediocre, anything below bad.

Good idea! I'll keep that in mind.

Cool! But my reviews originally appeared on Sputnik Music. I wouldn't want the link to be seen as spam for another music site.

Merci, Metantoine :)

It's not spam, don't worry. It's just to make sure your reviews are not plagiarized!

Well, if you don't want to link the original review link in each review, you could just link to your profile page on Sputnik Music (assuming you have one) on your M-A profile or something like that, or just write in your profile that you write for Sputnik. Just making this thread has already let the mods know you aren't plagiarizing, so don't worry.

Thank you all for your help! I will see if I can make a note on my sputnik profile.

I plan to start before the end of the week. I'm really loving the forum community here. There are also a lot of extremely informative reviews. I'm gonna do my best not to lower the standards :p

My first review went up. For Sinister Realm's album called "The Crystal Eye". I have my login at Sputnik so I can edit my profile over there if needed to prove my identity or edit my review slightly over there to prove ownership. Here's the link to the original.

Thanks again for all your help!
