One thing I really love about this site is that it lets users review metal albums. Since I listen to a wide variety of music I would also like to review non metal albums. Does anyone know a good site to do this on?

You could try using RYM.

I actually like amazon.com for their reviews. Check it.

You could try sputnikmusic. I've never written for it myself but pretty much every genre gets coverage.

- create your own magazine
- write some reviews and upload them to the Internet Archive.
Why rely on a site ... be more independent.

That's a great idea but right now I really don't have the time or money to start my own magazine.

I second this. RYM is great fun in general, actually, I enjoy rating all my albums.

EDIT: RYM = rateyourmusic.com, btw, in case he didn't know.

you can also do your own net-magazine like I have done it. You do not have to do it regularly, but the possibilities with such a thing are unlimited.

Pretty much all of my review writing is done for Suite101.com these days. As long as you follow certain guidelines, you can review anything. I've reviewed plenty of metal albums but I also have a few non-metal releases as well.

Just start your own blog. Free, easy and update it whenever you feel like it.

He could do that, but he'd have a total readership of himself and a few directs from a link in his sig here. Not the best way towards getting the facts about whatever out there.

You must have such a horrible taste! I pity you.

For all music even remotely prog, there is prog archives. They even have post-rock included.

I still read their reviews periodically though I never use them as the gold standard. Though what annoys me about them is that every other metal album from the last 10 years is rated a 3 or 3.5 out of 5 for some reason. I know it's a fairly average rating, but applying it to just about everything makes me wonder if they even listen to half the stuff that they review...

Would anyone read it if I made my own blog?

Do that, but make sure the ink isn't too harsh. People will mostly use it for toilet paper so make sure they're comfortable.

That's what I've done. It's mostly cross-posted here, but now and again something non-metal comes along I just have to write about. Also, I can do best of lists and all sorts of geeky stuff. Autothrall's is a better example than mine. He's using the same blogger but with a bunch of other reviewers, and you sometimes get book reviews and film reviews on there too. I wouldn't worry about noone reading it. Mine gets read, a bit, after I've been doing it a year, and bands link to it, but mostly it means I have somewhere of my own to write these things. Well, my brother is meant to be contributing, as he's far funnier than me, but he's also very lazy.
