Not a particularly helpful observation, but there it is.

Me, as usual. Don't worry too much about it.

Blind Guardian - Imaginations From The Other Side

Done with.

As a side note, I think we're crossing the rational threshold with this - I've seen numerous album with 13, 14 reviews; bearing the notion that a completed task usually diminishes an album's review count to these exact premises, 13 reviews seems like a perfectly valid number to me.

I'd tend to disagree. I'll start by qualifying this a little: I'm not a reviewer, have never taken the plunge and written anything for the site, but I have used the reviews section extensively for about 5 years now; it's my main source of information on new bands to check out. Despite this, I've never found it necessary to read more than 4/5 different reviews; that tends to be sufficient for me to decide whether I want to check something out. If I'm honest, I like to get a few perspectives and if they intrigue me, I'll get the album and spin it myself and then discuss it further in the forums - why spend time reading 10-15 reviews?

I don't think any cap is necessary on review number per release, since that could mean that excellent writers may not be able to contribute to an album that they really love, and can review brilliantly. However, it is important to go through the review section and cull out the bad stuff. I mean, I just did Imaginations... and of the 13 reviews there, only 5 were any good. By removing the rubbish ones, we make a space where new and better reviews could be written instead. I don't think this is going too far at all. :)

I agree with "controlling" the number of reports, but I don't think we need to decide on a specific number. If things look backlogged, just use your own judgement and hold off on posting until it gets cleared. I don't think this process should be unnecessarily complicated.

Hm, there are 24 reviews for A Matter of Life and Death. Maybe this is a case a few of us can work on together and discuss. It's certainly possible that all 24 reviews are good enough to stay, though.

As for an end to RDTF, I'm pretty much planning to close it down after the current "available" list is done, but we should continue to discuss the subject. I don't have a strong opinion either way about its lifespan.

Alrighty!

I think I will tackle At the Gates - Slaughter of the Soul next. It looks better than you'd expect, just skimming over it, but at eighteen reviews there are probably a few weak ones in there. We'll find out soon enough...

The point you have there has a bit of controversy to it, yet I mostly agree with it, however flagging a review simply on grounds of it not being different would rarely caused it deletion (I tried to pull it off several times, but they usually stay), and in any rate the RDTF itself must kinda have its jurisdiction - not because pruning through an album with, say, 10 reviews is anywhere problematic in my opinion, but if we do so we might end up being considered more of a nuisanse than a contributive force by the mods.

As far as the brilliant reviewers go - these usually get in no matter what. There's no limit of reviews per album (apart from the unwritten "25" law), and it usually happens that if a review by a profilic reviewer is pending and there are too much of them, the mods would even do a mini-RDTF for it and clean up some space for the review.

Agreed; mine could have you rotfl for a good week if you aren't prepared.

Anyway, I'll take Lacuna Coil's Karmacode. Should be done in a couple of days.

It's getting rather backed up in there. I think posting further reports should wait until the current ones are cleared.

I've been toying with the idea of having all reports posted here instead, and added to some central list separate from Oven Fodder so they can be worked on at a more comfortable pace by the mods.

Went to start Dopethrone and found 5 reviews for the album had been taken down, and all the rest seem fine, so I'll move on to Sagas by Equilibrium.

Post subject:

Been through the reviews for Sagas and they all look passable, a couple of not-so-hot ones but nothing that needs getting rid of I think.

So now I'll do Century Child by Nightwish.
