xexyzl, I know I'm not a mod and all, and maybe I'm just alone in this, but your shitty "I've learned..." posts reek of insecurity, pompousness and a really, really bad sense of humour. Give it a rest eh.

It's a bad UltraBoris impression and a wall of text.

One sentence of musical description, the rest is typical fanboy raving. Considering the album has 15 other reviews, this is quite unnecessary.

*coughs*

It's pretty much a response to the two previous reviews, one of which has since been deleted. There are three newer reviews that actually talk about the music.

Only musical description = "vicious riffs and improved lyrical content" and "they switch between thrashy riffs and well-placed breakdowns." That's it. Plus, it's really, really short.

Maybe the first 3-4 lines actually provide some sort of musical description, and very vaguely at that without much detail. The rest is a fairly immature and incoherent rant about the lyrical themes and bassist (basically says they're not tr00 death metal because of the jazzy sections and philosophical themes). Then a 1 line track summary at the end and rather poor grammar and use of punctuation all round as well. Might have been acceptable for 2005, but now... ehhh...

"ForeverDark Woods song starts with birds sounds, very light acoustic instruments playing and then progresses into very ceremonial song that describes woods that are forever dark."

http://www.metal-archives.com/reviews/G ... 8/Agonymph

Lemme try and kick this in the nuts. I'm putting it in a spoiler box just to keep the length short if you don't want to read all the crap.

Spoiler: show
"the album is pretty different from the happy and fast Power Metal style Gamma Ray usually plays"

"the war theme is there almost for the entire album and the lyrics show a lot of sarcasm about the state of the world at the moment the album was released (which could have been now just as well). The sarcasm is portrayed best in the spoken part of the stomping, Queen-ish opener 'Changes': "News flash! Under the new regulations non-conformity will be punished by law...Relax! And don't forget to unplug your TV-set!""

"Well, main element of that is the variation on the album. From typical Power Metal tracks as 'Start Running' and 'As Time Goes By', to more swinging stuff as '(We Won't) Stop The War' and the inventive (and surprising!) closer 'The Spirit', this might just be the most varied Gamma Ray-album.
There are two songs which stand out for me."

"So I thought that was going to be my favorite song of the album, until I heard the hypnotizing, Egyptian sounds of 'Dream Healer', easily the best composition of the album. The song shows a lot of tension and changes. And beautiful lyrics, just take the closing lines of the song: "Listen to dreams, they always tell you the truth, listen to dreams, it is your heart that is speaking to you"...beautiful!"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok I'm picking on these four points because aside from these, it's fanboy jizzing. Not like these aren't on the fanboy side, but I'd rather pick apart what produces an argument as opposed to picking on filler. I'll give him "fast", but saying that the album is varied is saying nothing new. Nothing new in the sense that every Gamma Ray album is varied. Even the shitty ones. The one before this, Heading For Tomorrow, had it's share of fast and happy tracks, but also dark and sad and whatever like the epic title track, and fast forward to the modern ones and you have - omfg - the same formula. What the juice? "typical power metal" - and that is... a huge generalization. "swinging" stuff = what? wtf is "swinging" stuff? "This might be the most varied Gamma Ray-album"

...

Well first off "Gamma Ray-album" has a problem with that "-" but aside from that the sentence itself is false. He's made no evidence for that claim, but even me not trying to be serious, I can name two GR albums more varied.

Anyway, the review is a scrunched-up bitch to read. That's one knock off that could be helped, but then you got these third-rate descriptions with 1 or 2 examples that are name-dropped and not exactly examined. This is an Amazon.com routine that I've done myself back in the day. It says one thing off a whim. The reviewer doesn't have to uber-describe, but what this reviewer says isn't enough to carry the weight of what hes saying. What I'm getting at is that he's trying to build up credibility with the album without doing a good job. Bland descriptions, bad formatting, poor flow, and not enough density.

Don't know if this should be mentioned here (or if it should be a report). But this review:

should have a link to this (because I suppose it's the same guy, and not a case of plagiarism):

If it's the same guy why do they have different scores? And why does his profile on MA points out to some blog and not the actual site where the review is?

Smells plagiarism.

This review is obviously a passive-aggressive troll. There's no way this guy actually went into the album with the intention of liking it. The guy says they are "Swedish death metal revival", though the band are from the Netherlands, and sound nothing like the bands he claims they "rip-off". Then he goes on to attack Martin Van Drunen, making it painfully obvious he has no idea who he or Asphyx are.

It seems to me he heard it once (not even the whole thing) and pumped out that review as an initial reaction.

"I feel bad giving this 1 out of 10, considering I gave Glen Benton the same score and he is miles above this spastic."

Wait...

1. He didn't give it a 1 out of 10, he gave it a 0.

2. What does he mean by he "gave Glen Benton the same score"? There are no other reviews of his on here that has Benton on vocals (to my knowledge).

3. Did a google search and found this:

http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/reviews/ ... index.html

May be the same reviewer, but there's no indication in the review or profile page on this site.

Also this review (top one, "What happens when a black metal band matures"):

http://www.metal-archives.com/reviews/O ... at/190618/

Short review, 10% of which is musical "description". Just this: "expect seven tracks which average between six to eight minutes each with tons of fresh and interesting riffing and songwriting. The bass guitar is audible and certainly plays it role in adding depth to the over all musical compositions, the vocals are only slightly less raspy than their last masterpiece."

Cozy Powell "bland"? And how the fuck is a drummer supposed to "wail"? I thought vocalists were the ones who did that.

Another "OMG this suckz" review without an iota of musical description. His descriptions are so shallow that without hearing the demo, all I can tell you is that this demo is... "bad". The reviewer doesn't even mention the genre, the riffing style, the production job, or anything at all, really, besides "bad and boring".

Hello,

This album http://www.metal-archives.com/albums/Fa ... Sun/327455 is not released yet, there is no official date for it release either. The band got a deal with a label a couple of days ago to release it sometime in the futur. How come there is already two reviews for the album? There is only a teaser about the album on the Internet. Both the reviews and the album should be removed.

EDIT: also check the reviews submitted by this user http://www.metal-archives.com/user-revi ... OfDeath666 he did nothing on the site other than submitting two low-points reviews for the releases of the above band (not to forget that one of the albums he reviewed is not released and is nowhere to be found on the Internet). I may be wrong but I suppose he is clearly trolling.

Just checked the Modification history, the album Mournful Cry Of A Dying Sun was previously deleted to be re-added again by the same user who already added it the first time with no new infomation.

In fact I suppose the band should be probably deleted too I am not quite sure that they even released anything physically yet. I'll get some local contacts to verify that as soon as possible and post that in the appropriate thread. For now I suppose all three reviews on this page should be removed for the above reasons also the album Mournful Cry Of A Dying Sun should be removed too.

Not sure where to post this...but a lot of the new reviews I see here are poorly written, full of needless profanity, and come across like they were written by over anxious 14 year olds just discovering metal for the first time. That recent "Born Too Late" review comes to mind...

Good eye, the band just signed a record deal on the 14th; the album will be released in March or April. Both reviews have been purged and the release date changed.

Gunther, I take it you're saving this one for last? It certainly needs addressing, and it might even be a candidate for plagiarism. Nonetheless, take your time. You've done solo and great up to this point.

Spoiler: show

This review is obviously a passive-aggressive troll. There's no way this guy actually went into the album with the intention of liking it. The guy says they are "Swedish death metal revival", though the band are from the Netherlands, and sound nothing like the bands he claims they "rip-off". Then he goes on to attack Martin Van Drunen, making it painfully obvious he has no idea who he or Asphyx are.

It seems to me he heard it once (not even the whole thing) and pumped out that review as an initial reaction.

Wait...

1. He didn't give it a 1 out of 10, he gave it a 0.

2. What does he mean by he "gave Glen Benton the same score"? There are no other reviews of his on here that has Benton on vocals (to my knowledge).

3. Did a google search and found this:

May be the same reviewer, but there's no indication in the review or profile page on this site.

Thanks Ozzy, I reported back to the admins about the situation regarding the Hail of Bullets review, looked at your links, and have proposed a ban. I'm keeping the review up so the admins can see the link(s) as proof. It'll be gone ASAP.

Sorry man, I think it should stay. It's bare in length, but everything that needs to be addressed is. I see no point in removing it.
