What is the chances of getting something like this? I know there is an Android app, and I'd like to enjoy osmething like this on my device as well.

See if you can make it work with the forums! Also, make sure that we can use it with our own profiles, so we can add/edit reviews, view our profile etc.!

Iphone apps are way less likely to happen, as happy programmers such as myself have to not only purchase a Macintosh computer to compile and test my code on, but a 99$ iPhone/touch development kit. It makes me want to pull my hair out.

In fact, legitimate dev's have been forced to hack the iPhone/touch OS onto a compact flash (CF) camera card JUST for testing Apps they want to use, but have written on a non-apple computer.

Well if someone already claimed dibs and is truly committed to build such application, I will humbly reconsider my entry.

To clarify,
my plan was to build an .99$ app which would serve rather as a general "metal encyclopedia" backed up by the Metal-Archives data, as opposed to a mobile front-end to the www.metal-archives.com which, judging from the screenshots, the Android app is.
Naturally, the fair cut of unlikely "earnings" would go as a donation to support the Metal Archives.

Okay, rather than wait for Morri and HellBlazer to nut out an API for safe data transfer, I'm just gonna jump the gun and start developing the app using the site's native feedback system. Then once an API *is* developed, I can always refactor the code and issue an update for all users of the app.

In laymen's terms, what this means is the functionality might be unpredictable at times... but we'll see how it goes.

(Oh, and iOS doesn't support JSON parsing, believe it or not. Hello, Regular Expressions.)

Well, there's a few frameworks out there, but I'm having trouble integrating the frigging things into the XCode project (don't ask; Apple seem to make things a million times more complicated than they need to be. )

You actually can, there's a few apps that have the capabilities to do so and the fact that they all advertise the fact that they can do this so highly makes me think it takes a hell of a lot of work to build that feature into an app.

Good luck with that, but you'll need to stay on your toes if the data structure changes in future. I'd trust HB and Morrigan to keep the API operating smoothly rather than a third-party system.

In either case, nobody's donating anything, because it's been my experience that people never pay for something they don't have to.
