I listened to the whole thing and it's not metal enough. So that's two Mods that have said the same thing now. Sorry dude, just not going to happen.

Yes, I'm not exactly an expert on extreme punk, but I feel familiar enough with it that I can detect the subgenres/influences and discern what's punk and what's metal. I did listen to the entire thing -thanks for assuming that I didn't- and... it's punk-based grind mixed with hectic, speedy hardcore. The only thing even remotely resembling consistent use of metal riffs are a few mid-to-slow-paced sludgy parts, but this I have found to be a characteristic of (newer?) pv bands, in that they like to mix in these heavy breaks and tempo changes to further contribute to the spastic nature of the music. The use of these parts on your album appears to be very similar to this. In any case, a few islands of metaloid music are not enough when the rest is grind/hardcore-based.

So perhaps I can't tell you with total educated authority what this is in terms of punk music, but it's certainly not metal. I don't know what you intended the music to be, but I can tell you that the site does not consider the end product to be acceptable.

EDIT: I am solely referring to the EP here, but another mod told me that the material on the split is also not metal.

Wow, that's really interesting situation. I haven't seen your message about "Sorh". I've found "Hollow" album on YouTube (not bad ABM), so decided to check the band on MA, but found nothing. Then tried to add it into database and it wasn't blacklisted (was also surprised that band wasn't in database already). Hope you're not upset with that Image

Haha not at all, what are the chances of adding a band such as this at the same time lol, quite rare I'm sure.

I can honestly say that these guys are far from being a nu-metal or rock band. I saw them live and they are heavy as hell. Nu-metal doesn't begin to factor into their sound. Their influences are more thrash and death metal. If you listen to the track "Angel Skin" you'll hear that. I know I'm beating the drum really hard for this band, but that's only because I truely feel they deserve to have their band remembered and to be apart of the Encyclopedia. I found a music video on Youtube that they did.

Sounds like a bad Machine Head clone. I guess that's makes them technically metal though...

Any particular reason why Deuil (Belgium) is blacklisted? Did a quick search of the forums and I can't find any mention. They have a physical release (http://redriverfamily.bigcartel.com/pro ... ce-rebuild) and it seems to have pretty major atmospheric black metal elements to me (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mjyut8jxVCs) - although there's some post-rockish meandering it's clearly a minor element of the music IMO.

Blacklisted reason is "Ambient/drone"

Can I ask that be reviewed? It seems inaccurate on the most recent EP, and I'm not sure if they have other material.

Some songs sound acceptable, others are borderline. Without a full release to listen to and evaluate, I'm not comfortable unblacklisting the band until we can be sure you've a 100% obviously metallic release in your discography. Bands like Spasm, Fecalizer and Paracoccy are here because at least one of their albums are fully metal. So the whole "but you accepted X, why not Y?!" argument will never work.

Also, we don't judge on live performances. We judge bands by their recorded material...

Dear friends this is our recorded material please listen to it and provide your comments.. I think its ¨metal¨ grindcore and like Ive said before Spasm, Guttalax, Fecalizer and many more approved band Style.. Enjoy and let me know if anyone need a copy and will send :D

I posted this in the recent thread in Metal Discussion about grunge/grindcore, but it seems it didn't get any attention there. I'd like to ask the mods if they could kindly reevaluate the grunge band Gruntruck.

Their music - on this particular album, at least - seems to have a wealth of metal riffage in the same way that Alice in Chains did and still do (in all fairness, AiC were added to the Archives for their material released before Layne Staley passed away, and thus before their guitar tone became outright massive and their metal influence became almost unequivocal; I would say that this possesses more-or-less the same amount of "heaviness"):

Exegutor from Belarus are blacklisted probably because of their early works. I think their music is good example of death metal/grindcore. Belarusian answer to Napalm Death, Terrorizer and Brutal Truth. Now they play Grindcore.

Physical releases:

and some samples:
http://exegutor.bandcamp.com/track/idiot-song
http://exegutor.bandcamp.com/track/subway-rats
http://exegutor.bandcamp.com/track/cure-for-dull
http://exegutor.bandcamp.com/track/15-m ... mans-chest
http://exegutor.bandcamp.com/track/alerta-3
http://exegutor.bandcamp.com/track/legalize-the-napalm
http://exegutor.bandcamp.com/track/lullaby

They should be in the Archives.

I have a question, why Eudaimonia from Denmark is blacklisted?
His albums on bandcamp are pretty metal.

Not-metallic post-/shoegaze, according to the blacklist. Added back in late September, so if, in the (not-very-likely) case that they released an unabmiguously metal album in the last two months, post the links here.

I'm leaning towards it being unacceptable. The production emphasizes black and doom aesthetics but the fact that most of the riffing isn't metal is emphasized by a burst of metal riffing at the end of the first track, plus some bits of black metal riffing in the second track mixed into most non-metal. Seems like a Converge-lite wannabe more than a black/doom band with hardcore influences.

I guess Ratos de Porao is a little too punk/hardcore? Albums like Guerra Civil Canibal (2001) and Homem Inimigo do Homem (2006) are really on the fine line between thrash and hardcore... Just a little bummed such a great band goes unnoticed...

if you accept only albums that are at least 20 minutes long here in MA, then what if my previous grindcore band has 8 minutes long EP? shouldn't there be an exception for grindcore bands? im sure if you have some experience in this genre, you will know that 8 minutes for an EP of a grindcore band can perfectly be an equivalent of 20-30 minute EP of, let's say - black metal band.

Minimum time length requirements apply to bands with only digital releases. Physically-released material has no such requirement.

Taste doesn't really come into play when we accept a band or reject it. It's not on the blacklist so I don't know why it was rejected but the rejection notes should have told you the reasons - so did you follow the guidelines?

A) is it metal?
B) is there a physical release?
C) if only digital, is it available to be purchased on a permanent host?
D) if only digital, does it meet the 30 min requirement?
etc...

read the rules, look over the rejection notice(s) and see if it meets the criteria.

Looks good, your submission was approved. Just for future reference though, if you forget to add proof of release or something like that to the band submission in the first place, you can always submit a report for the band with links to images, sound clips, etc. while it's still awaiting mod approval in the queue just in case the moderator doesn't see your post in this thread.

I know that people have their own opinions and views of Alter Bridge as a band but I feel there new album has a lot more in line with being considered 'metal' more so than any previous effort. Tremonti has his solo project on here and if that's considered metal because of the slightly faster riffs and the inclusion of more double bass seems like a limited guideline, at best. Their new album seems to have more in line with progressive/groove/thrash than with just general hard rock. This is their heaviest, and most diverse, album.

Songs with good examples from the newest album listed below.

Cry of Achilles:

Addicted to Pain:

Calm the Fire:

Fortress:

I've checked the entire album. There's faster metallic riffing sometimes, but the songwriting seems to be hard rock-based. Don't take this is a definite nay from MA as a whole, but that's my preliminary assessment for now.

I'd like to submit Arnocorps here as I think most who listen to them, particularly the releases after the first album (Ballsy EP, Two More! and The Fantastic EP), would be considered within the genre of Heavy Metal.

This on the other hand... one of the EPs you mention ("Ballsy") seems to be punk rock, but "The Greatest Band of All Time" sounds like punk-loving heavy metal. No problem with accepting them based on this, I'd say. Can now be submitted. Also thanks for bringing them to my attention, cool stuff. This is what Austrian Death Machine would like to be.

Thanks for the consideration. I hope you enjoyed it!

So I'd like to request a re-evaluation of a blacklisted band. They are Bleed the Sky, and they have not released any new material in the past five years. If they were on the archives, I'd imagine that they'd be listed with a status of, "Unknown".

They were probably blacklisted for being too much of a Groove/Nu/Metalcore act, and with that in mind, I have to admit that I have no high expectations for this. I'm re-submitting them because I feel like there's a small possibility that they could just barely get in on mood/personality/style alone via their debut, Paradigm in Entropy (it's rather aggressive, dark, and primal for its genre). I have not listened to their follow-up.

We'll see, I guess.

"Minion" is one of the more aggressive and consistently driving songs on the album. They employ some melodeath-like riffs here and there on "Skin Un Skin", and get a bit moodier with "Leverage", but apart from that, no, it's pretty consistent, and even those tracks aren't as different as I make them sound.

That's a wrap then. Thanks. :)

I came across a band called Seker which has been blacklisted. Just curious to know the reason behind that.
I listened to a couple of a tracks and they sound straight up tech-death. There are some deathcore leanings but I feel it's hardly anything pronounced. Can this be re-evaluated? If a mod can give the green signal, then I'll submit the band. Thanks.

Blacklist reason was too -core. And it was just blacklisted a few months ago.

Ok, thanks for the advice.

Cheers.

Exegutor from Belarus are blacklisted probably because of their early works. I think their music is good example of death metal/grindcore. Belarusian answer to Napalm Death, Terrorizer and Brutal Truth. Now they play Grindcore.

Physical releases:

and some samples:

http://exegutor.bandcamp.com/track/subway-rats
http://exegutor.bandcamp.com/track/cure-for-dull
http://exegutor.bandcamp.com/track/15-m ... mans-chest
http://exegutor.bandcamp.com/track/alerta-3
http://exegutor.bandcamp.com/track/legalize-the-napalm

They should be in the Archives.
