Hei guys,

I've recently added a band (Viral, from Finland) and it has been rejected, for "the album isn't released physically and a stream of the album on youtube is not enough". I am happy it wasn't rejected for any other reason though! But I'm pretty sure I've provided you with links in my submission notes, including the artist's official website from where the album can be reserved/bought. I've read your submission rules and I'd say this submission meets the described criteria.

Anyways, the album is going to be remastered in the near future and I would like to resubmit the band by then. All I need to know is whether the artist's page (with reservations/sales link) is not enough as proof of the existence of the album.

Besides, I suggest your rules to be re-written in a clearer and more direct way. It is not yet quite encompassing this project's criteria as I am sure you'd wish to put it. Sarcasm makes a text sound "cool", but it doesn't communicate things any further than that, or? :)

^ Well, the fact it can be reserved suggests it's still an upcoming release, not something that is already released. Thus invalid.

The meant album was released quite a few years ago already :) just the remastered version is not out there yet. But it's good to know that at least the source is going to be considered valid (right?).

^ How? In Youtube only? That's not considered a valid release, so it's the first valid release of the album which matters. And yes, a serious physical release basically guarantees that the band has a valid release - with digital releases we're more picky, but in this case a proper download would probably do too, as streaming-only isn't enough. But, in the end, the music itself has to be (predominantly) metal. I don't know if any moderators have listened to it yet so we'll have to check that at some point too. The Youtube vids should work fine for that.

The heart of the matter is this: How was the album originally released (in 2008 apparently)? If it's merely been uploaded to Youtube, then it hasn't seen an acceptable form of distribution according to our rules and you have to wait for the physical, remastered version to be shipped out. If the original release was already physical or digitally downloadable in some form, then it's alright (but we'd like some info/proof for that too).

But then, how can such a band be accepted?

http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Egoism/3540368607

So, if there are any ways of having a band accepted with the aid of some exceptions, please let me know how. Or direct me to the page that sets the rules for those kinds of bands.

And, as I said, I am pretty sure I mentioned in my submission notes that the the album is not only on YouTube. I don't know if I should be giving links here. So if I shouldn't, just kick my message out of here later. Here are some other places where the album exists:

- Mikseri: http://www.mikseri.net/artists/viral.40166.php
- Artist's website (direct link to the album): http://www.timokomulainen.com/viral_ant ... er_320.rar
- Artist's website (link to the album info): http://www.timokomulainen.com/index.php ... ian-hunger
- LastFM: http://www.last.fm/music/Viral

Not trying to be the annoying chick here, I'm just trying to settle in ^^

Just for the record, this wasn't an exception to the rules that say you need a valid release. The user who submitted that band is a moderator, so I'm sure he had sufficient proof when he decided to add it to the website. If he didn't add the actual album to the discography, it's probably because whatever source he cited to add them didn't list the track order (which you need to add an album entry here).

It can be accepted because it has a release:

It's not mentioned explicitly in the submission, but I see the linked website contains a download link. The moderator who rejected it probably missed that or misinterpreted the CD pre-order as the only/first official release. Anyway, I'll check that download, but so far it looks okay.

^^^ Yeah, I missed the download link on the official website too (for me the page background is quite distracting). So valkjr, in future, mentioning details like this clearly in the submission should help. It's possible - sometimes even easy - to miss something on a random website you've never visited before, but no moderator should overlook the submission notes.

As the blacklist note says, practically no metal riffing. More ambient than metal.

Yep, RonimuZ, I understand. But yeh, same guy, different projects.

I would like to send his latest to the queue now. But before I do it, I would like to find some detailed info on solo artists here... Can I add him as a "band", once he is using his own name as the band name?

^ Yes. Solo projects are added and treated like any other band/project, artist pages are what we have for referring to artists as individuals.

Why is Misantropía XYY from Peru blacklisted? I feel it's likely more noise than metal?

I tried to submit the Russian band Maleficium Arungquilta but got a message that they are blacklisted - could anyone pls tell me why? I did a search of this forum and could not find anything - I'm curious because they seem to me to be gothic metal (at least their recent CD "Транс Для Сестры") albeit a little electronic in places with some weird vocals.

Thx

They're considered gothic rock/darkwave.

Thk you for the quick reply - I agree with this assessment for their first two CDs but I think their latest 2013 release "Транс Для Сестры" is a noticeable change in style to gothic metal - if anyone has to the time and interest to verify this (all their songs can be heard at the link below) I would be glad to resubmit them to the queue.

I'm not really sure if this is the right place for this question, and if it's not, I'm sorry. I just discovered (but haven't yet submitted) a band called Solum Mortum, and a post someone made on their wall says that they picked up one of their demo CD's. Is that post considered acceptable physical evidence, even if I don't know the demo's name or tracklisting? I do know that the band is clearly metal enough, though.

Instances such as this usually require a judgment call on whether or not the Facebook post suggests that a demo was actually distributed - in this case it clearly is. I need to make the distinction because we have literally had submissions where the proof of release was a Facebook post on an otherwise blank label page with three likes.

With cases like this, we usually like to look and ask for a bit more info - the tracklisting of the demo would be nice. Even without it, that should be acceptable (link this post in the submission notes so we don't have to check it again). The guy who made the post you linked has one mutual friend with me, who happens to be a staffer here. Small world? :P

What are the chances of that, huh? It really is a small world.
As far as the tracklisting goes, I've gotten a number of demo CD's from a number of local bands at shows, and in most cases, the stuff they have streaming on their Facebook/Soundcloud/whatever is the exact same stuff as is on the demo CD. I don't want to assume that's the case here, though. Because it might not be.
Thanks for the help!

Was going to add instrumental black metal band Dampe's Keep but they were blacklisted. Would this be due to the debut cassette only containing three tracks at 13min? The reason I ask is because they have just released a new 21 minute track and might be enough to get them added if this was the original case -

http://glossolaliarecords.bandcamp.com/ ... amp-s-keep

many thanks in advance.

For physical releases there is no real minimum length. They are blacklisted for being a cover band since their songs are closely based on Zelda soundtracks.
The blacklist entry is newer than this release.

Hey guys.

I posted the band "Salário do Pecado". They released their first album yesterday, and one of this songs is "Lei", and I had posted this song recorded from album in my submission (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9RrDdqq1Xs), please, you can accept this band? Thanks!

Hi there, I created an entry about my friends' band called Age of Sorrow, from Athens, Greece and it was rejected. However they have only just recorded their first LP and all I have is a rough mix of it. The band has no desire to release any samples yet on the internet, since this is not the mastered final version of the LP.

Is it possible to just create the entry of the band and later on when the LP is released to enter its data? The band sounds like a primitive form of Bulldozer and Impaled Nazarene.

Thank you.

@george1979: Should be no problem. The band isn't blacklisted, you just need to wait until it's released and then provide samples of the final version.

Motherpig (Bosnia and Herzegovina) can now be considered metal. Early material couldn't, but this one now is metallic crust plus hints of rock'n'roll.

Check both albums at http://motherpig.bandcamp.com
