This is a practice that could be codified better and made more consistent. In fact, I wouldn't mind seeing it for all bands that lie on the borderline; would certainly help clear the air about what was acceptable about some of the submissions we've accepted and/or later reviewed.

More importantly, that's not "worthless" at all, just adding proper punctuation. Whoever added those notes in the first place should've included them, rather.

He didn't edit lyrics, as far as I can see.

Reproduction of lyrics is a point of contention, but yeah, it's not wrong to add them in a form faithful to the original print.
