Basically, although I said problems, the only flaw is that whenever I'm browsing the main part of the site the following happens:

If I want to search for a band based on specific information (ie not by country or genre), it will only allow me to use that search field once. Any time I try to use it after that, I can't get it to activate or anything. I have to refresh the page just to be able to reuse that search box again.

I don't seem to have the problem at all if I access the site through IE so maybe it's yet another Firefox-related bug...

Well, I do not think that this problem is site related. It rather looks like your browser is messed up a bit.

Have you ever tried to clean your cookies, temporary internet files and browser history?

What you can also do is to create a second profile %path%/firefox.exe -p (create a short-cut on the desktop and add the '-p' to the path the short-cut is refering to) and visit the Metal Archives and see if you can reproduce the error with a 'fresh' profile.

I have exactly the same problem. A week ago, I reformated (correct word?) my computer and reinstalled firefox 3. And the problem is still here.

Again: create a new profile and see if the error occurs also with this one. If the new one works correctly, then you can copy these files into your new profile folder:

bookmarks.html - Bookmarks Fx2
places.sqlite - Bookmarks Fx3
cert8.db, secmod.db, key3.db, signons.txt (Firefox 2.0.0.2 / 1.5.0.10 signons2.txt, Firefox 3 signons3.txt) - (password)
cookies.txt - (Cookies)
hostperm.1 - (Pop-Up-stuff, blocked graphics etc.)
search.rdf und searchplugins-Ordner

perhaps you should not c/p the java skript stuff and the extension folder; it might be best to re-install them.

I don't use a short-cut to access Firefox though, it's my default browser so comes on automatically once I connect to the internet.

I'll try gutting my temporary internet files, cookies and all that though see if that works.

well, if your profile is messed up, then you have to use a short-cut:

As have I. I have been looking around for a solution but haven't come up with anything...

Someone also having this problem told me it seemed to come from an extension called "RealPlayer Browser Record Function", as when he disables this extension the search works fine. Are you guys also using it?

If not, it might be somehow caused by another extension you're using? I personally always use Firefox and have never had this issue before.
