Avatar is listed as nu-metal... I really do not see how they fit that sub-genre.

Their first few albums were sort of melodic death metal, but their last two or three records definitely fall under groove metal.

If you listen to this album (Hail the Apocalypse) as well as the one before (The Black Waltz), you can still hear the death metal roots, but they add more melody and focus more on the guitar tone (including intricate melodies and twin guitar harmonies). The riff structures remind me of Throwdown when they did Deathless, which definitely falls under groove metal.

Nothing about this qualifies as "nu-metal".

I changed the genre back in 2013. I'm a little relieved to know that my mind is capable was successfully able to purge any memories of StarCraft-themed nu-metal.

This is mallcore-as-fuck. Sounds like STYE-era In Flames mixed with mallcore Machine Head with Marilyn Manson and grunge mixed in. There's absolutely zero death metal in here.

Agreed, no death metal. Sounds like nu-metal to me.

Regarding the band Obscure Infinity: http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Obs ... 3540257810. Is there any significant black metal elements to edit the genre to be blackened death or death/black?
I hear alot of Dissection/Necrophobic in the releases.

Here's a few links to songs from there three albums:

The genre tag stuck oin God Dethroned kind of bothers me. The thing is, there's almost no black metal influence to be found in their music, especially their later albums (e.g. Into the Lungs of Hell and Lair of the White Worm...I'd like to see an argument about BM traits in those two, randomly chosen among their later discography).

The album best suited to make this argument is The Grand Grimoire - but I can't say there's much to be argued for. The riffing basis is squarely in the thrash/death camp (for example, the main riff and the chorus riff of "The Art of Immolation"), and while some of the tremolo passages could be connected to black metal...I don't know. I just don't hear it. Not nearly enough to warrant a blanket genre description which works for their entire discography.

In general, I also think that the thrash influence is overlooked completely, for reasons completely unknown to me.

Any thoughts?

I think it would be much more appropriate for Waltari's genre to be "Various" since they've played just about everything in different combinations. Ask Napero for input. Their current genre describes like what? Two of their albums at most?

Two at most? Dunno if I'd agree with that... This was actually reported once before and after consulting with Napero, I decided to keep it the way it was. We could add "Various", but I'm still not convinced it's warranted. Admittedly, I am not familiar with all their full-lengths.

Extol needs a genre correction http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Extol/1164. I realize that their genre is already a giant cluster fuck but their 2013 album was a return to death metal.

What is "mallcore" even supposed to mean?

And I disagree... Avatar sounds nothing like Machine Head or Marilyn Manson. Especially their older stuff was pretty much melodic death metal: heavy, tuned low, only screaming/growling in the early stuff. https://youtu.be/mhaXT5gbCUg

I maintain that the overall tone of the newer stuff is more like groove metal. When I hear "nu-metal" I think of Linkin Park... this sounds nothing like that. https://youtu.be/nQ7UL0UTbZg

Shitty -core music played in Hot Topic at the mall. Some call it nu metal but since there is zero metal involved it's inaccurate....hence the correct term mallcore.

I never listened to the band, but...

Well, that's already reflected by the current genre, isn't it? And if they shifted towards a more groove/nu-metal sound later on, that early output wouldn't have any bearing on the later period.

All instances of "mallcore" were replaced/removed from the genre fields on the site a while ago, btw.

Well, the first EP does sound like pretty standard black metal. The new stuff adds a bit of everything, but I think we could just call it black/death metal, which should suffice for their entire catalog then.

Negative Creep is labeled as "thrashcore" but it sound more like a metallic-/hardcore punk stuff, not sure if it is some kind of modern metal-thrashcore:

http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Storm/3540390934

This is Storm from US (Hawaii). It is listed as Gothic Metal but I'd preferably label it as Gothic/Power Metal especially on their second album. Yes, it has a female singer but it isn't soprano or any Gothic style. There are guitar solos and keyboard solos in most of the songs.

Here are some songs on Storm:

This song does remind me of

This

http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Critical_Mass/10176

Critical Mass is one of only three bands on the archives listed as "technical power metal." Out of curiosity's sake, I wanted to hear some of this band's music to see what that could sound like, since usually more technical-sounding power metal is listed as progressive instead of technical, or both, but not just "technical." Upon finally hearing this, I don't think it sounds technical or like power metal at all. To me, it sounds like a less thrashy version of Mordred without the funk elements - basically regular heavy metal with 90s rock influence. Not sure what it'd be officially listed as on here, but definitely not "technical power metal."

http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Orodruin/9423

Orodruin is portrayed as a Black / Doom Metal band on Metal-Archives.
Although the first demo had some "Doomy" elements (mostly due to the synths), all consecutive releases are primitive Black Metal, with the exception of the "Keepers of the Ancient Flame" split with Old Tower; a Dark Ambient (or so-called Dungeon Synth) record and the most recent split with Boecx, as it includes synth-work like on the first demo.

"A Wind from the East" from the first demo ("...the Fire that Welled There"):

Why is Laaz Rockit labeled as Power/Thrash? In my opinion they are 100% thrash metal. Can someone please explain to me where the power metal label is coming from, and why it is the first one given?

No worries. I am trying to go through the bands that have "thrashcore" in the genre and find samples, because that is an ambiguous genre name that tends to describe too many different sounds.

http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Hiroshima_22/71776

http://myspace.com/hiroshima22

I think that just plain "Grindcore" would suffice for their sound, or no?

http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Nerun/69090

https://myspace.com/nerun/music/songs

Thrash Metal/Crossover.

http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Days_of_Grace/60231

https://myspace.com/daysofgrace/music/songs

Almost all of their new output is nu metal or rock.

http://www.daysofgrace.de/musik/worldofshit.mp3

This is the only song they have uploaded from their 1997 album.

Just wondering but early Incantation albums seem to have solid quantities of doom in their sound. Shouldn't this be reflected in the genre field?

EDIT: Nevermind, I should've used the search function...

Speaking of being anal in that recent post of yours ;):
1. The tag ended with a period. Removed by BastardHead.
2. The early/later tags are separated by a dash, not a comma.
3. Not sure what (2000 - ) means. Suggestions: (2000) since there's only one album, or (post-2000) since it's unknown how long the band endured.

Punk or crust should be added to the tag. Their 2008 album is metal/grind/crust, but their latest demo is crust/punk.

I'm pretty sure that whatever IBM plays these days doesn't fit squarely into "Atmospheric Black Metal" anymore. "Bespoke Negativity", "Universalplight" and "Thevirgocluster/acollapsedstar" sound a lot like Jesu or Nadja (ambient drone/doom?), while the other songs contain equal amounts of Gnaw Their Tongues-ish black noise and ambient. No idea how to unite that under a single denominator; "Atmospheric black/drone/doom metal, ambient", maybe?

Tagged as Progressive/Heavy Metal. There are undeniable thrash tendencies within their sound, maybe some groove too. A good genre tag would be Progressive Thrash/Groove Metal, maybe Technical Thrash... or any combination of both.

Devilish Impressions (http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Dev ... ions/53071)
I would suggest to change the genre to "Experimental" because it is intrinsic to their music and attitude. The word "Symphonic" can describe well the Simulacra album, but not the rest:
- the guitars/synths on Eritis Sicut Deus and Plurima Mortis Imago sound "industrial";
- the Diabolicanos' guitars and synths sound "progressive";
- barely existing, the Adventvs' synths are on the background, sounding "atmospheric".

Source/Evidence:
- Simulacra samples: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKsgJI_111o
- Diabolicanos samples: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QzhG9-ZmvRQ, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibpg9VYdYLY
- Plurima Mortis Imago sample: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AAwVKT_FUlU
- Adventvs sample: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FacuWzRbro0

You may also consider that the band sometimes refers to themselves as "Experimental Black/Death Metal" (like in the description here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06P7TUoy-j4)

Tagged as Heavy Metal, the band was Groove/Thrash Metal/Crossover in their early days. Their more recent albums sound Groove Metal/Metalcore to me.

Tagged as Heavy/Power Metal. While their 2004 demo may fit that description (songs like Sender al infierno are Power/Thrash), their 2014 album is mostly thrash oriented. They even describe themselves as Thrash Metal band at their Facebook profile.

Treat (That swedish "Melodic Heavy Metal" band) is not in the page, i want to add it but i don't want to spent my time in a band that can be rejected, so i want to know if it's Melodic Heavy Metal or just Hard Rock.
