They added Devil Driver. Might as well add Slipknot too.

Devildriver played metal on their latest album.

If Slipknot's latest album happens to be completely metal - especially something that you can fit in a predefined box called a "genre" (Thrash, Death, Groove, Power? You never know) However, I doubt that. There might be breakdowns, but those aren't metal. There might be riffs, but those aren't new for Slipknot (Slipknot has riffs? WTF?), and unless they kick out half their band, I doubt they'll start releasing anything decent in the future.

Why it is still metal

"Nu Metal" or mallcore, which is it's proper name, isn't metal. It's watered down groove metal mixed with grunge and some bands using elements of rap and industrial thrown in. Mix that with very rare shows of solos and that equals music which is too far removed from metal to qualify as it.

It's not as simple as that.

Well, basically it seems that the first wave of nu-metal bands (Korn, Limp Bizkit, Deftones) sort of did something original, and got popular in the process, and then started to suck (The whole first-album-being-the-best syndrome actually seems to apply to Korn, many people I know who followed this band say that their first album was the best). A bunch of bands followed and took the sound into multiple directions - not one was a good one. Gothic elements, rapcore, even death metal. Even bands that aren't nu-metal got lumped up as such (System of a Down) when the nu-metal craze hit. I remember when that was, I even thought Hatebreed and Lamb of God were nu-metal, since back then I never heard of the term "Nu-Metal" and referred to anything heavy as simply "Heavy Metal". I was in Junior High.

So it seems that nu-metal exists in multiple forms, almost as many as traditional forms of metal. Linkin Park plays one form, Limp Bizkit plays another, Korn plays yet another, Slipknot yet another, and Soulfly a different sort still.

Very well said. I agree. Just because people don't generally like, or appreciate "nu metal" doesnt mean that every band that is not liked that happened to hit it big in between 94 and 2001 is nu metal. Examples: Godsmack, Disturbed, etc. They may have gotten big in metal around that time but I see nothing similar to a band such as Slipknot or Korn in either of them. But again, I agree with that response.

Devildriver is shit for being submitted in the archives. Yeah, and by that logic, Atreyu as well as Avenged Sevenfold should be admitted as well. I arduously believe that worship bands of their kind, as well as the perfect example (A Perfect Murder) should never be admitted. These bands are simply metal worship at best.

Slipknot has been metal for sometime now, unfortunately being a highly watered down form of industrial/groove (undoubtedly, there are far too many members), the most metal album they ever had was Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat, mostly being industrial groove combined with fusion and a small amount of death influences.

That debut EP/demo or whatever it is isn't bad at all, I just wish they'd lay off the Mr. Bungle influence.

Today, Dead Can Dance were submitted. I only wait, when the users start to submit Minor Threat, Judge or Gorilla Biscuits from the hardcore thread or even all the projects listed in the hardcore techno thread on the general forum.

Adding Slipknot to the Archives would be like adding Disturbed or Linkin Park or some other trendy radio bullshit.
And who the fuck listens to the radio?

Actually a Thrash band similar to Tankard could have such a name in Germany, because "Korn" is the name of a really cheap hard drink (about 32% alcohol) that is popular among alcoholics. ;)
