it should be at least 60 days. I don't have the time to read all the somewhat interesting topics and sometimes I save a reply on a file to post it the next week

or if it's possible there could be a voting system somewhat à la Digg.com to regularly clean up the forum: the thumbs up would delay the automatic lock while the thumbs down would accelerate it. MA users would decide which topics are worth keeping open and which topics should sink fast

Does phpBB even allow the rating of threads? Well, I guess there might be plug-ins for it...

there's plenty of PHP forums with thread ratings. I presume there's a way to link the rating with the automatic lock delay
