Seeing the ongoing flood of mostly Greeks and Spanish/Portuguese speakers being just too incompetent to read the rules and FAQ, would it maybe be a good idea to include (at least short versions containing the most necessary informations) versions of these in the language of countries whose users most frequently appear asking stupid questions?

And if people can't understand the site itself, maybe it should include a link to the Google language tool that translates whole websites. I just tried it for German, and while the syntax is (as usual) horrendous, at least the translations make sense.

Link.

priceless.
But why not translate it "by hand". There should be enough competent native speakers who would be able to translate the texts. These auto-translations are neat, but you loose a lot of information this way.

Wow, thanks.

I'm able to do a complete translation to Spanish if need be.

Unfortunately competence in English is more or less requisite in any global-international context; and proportionally there are huge numbers of Latin American metalheads who have no or an extremely tenuous capacity with the language. All things considered it would make sense for the site to have bi- or perhaps tri-lingual functionality. Unfair, but it reflects the gadawful education systems of most South American countries (Mexicans tend to have better English) along with the massive number of Latin metalheads.

By the way, according to Alexa, most MA users come from Brazil:
http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traff ... chives.com

If you sum the amount of visitors from the Spanish speaking countries from South America, it's more than 20%.

Anyway, I don't think it's a bad idea to have a faq in other languages.

I don't think so. Also, not everyone fills the country field. You don't.

Does that site go by what country the user chooses, or by IP address. Because I'm willing to bet most people from Antartica and (insert random third world backwards country) are really American. For some reason, it seems mostly Americans would find this funny. I certainly do.

Obviously, it's by IP address.

It's mostly not a language comprehension issue, but rather laziness and lack of concern for doing things correctly. Newbies ask everyday in the forums how to edit a band's line-up or stuff like that, and that's including people from America and UK.

I'd volunteer to translate the guidelines, but can someone without a minimal grasp of English actually be a valid contributor? I mean, when he's submitting a band, does he know what "current/last lineup" and "Past members" are supposed to mean?

Wouldn't availability of rules in all those languages appear like an invitation to flood the site with additional notes and stuff in Spanish...?

The argument that I used in a previous thread was that if more than one language is supported here, there might be more users from other countries complaining about the missing translations in their native languages.

I'm not sure if that can be done, but even if such an option was available, the server stats are broken since 2005 or so.

The Spanish part of the FAQ could consist of one sentence:

"If you can't read or write English properly, shut the fuck up and get the fuck out."

Si no puedes leer o escribir inglés correctamente, calla la boca y vete a la mierda!

For those who don't know, "vete a la mierda" is the wonderful Spanish equivalent to "fuck off" and means "step into the shit". :P

Seriously, I don't think this would help us. Then we'd have angry ignorant people ready to troll and/or point-whore (do these verbs exist?).

By the way I know it has been a joke. :oh shit:
