^ I told him some time ago that linking reviews/interviews is mostly considered pointwhoring, unless it's an obscure band. He told me he didn't know and would stop. Evenfiel should tell him again.

I'm not sure what this guy's doing, but he's updated the Judas Preist page about 10 times in as many minutes.

What's your problem? Wikipedia and Lost Souls Domain links are not at all irrelevant. In fact, I add them too on MusicBrainz (by the way, I am an AutoModerator there). Is it forbidden to add a lot of links? It's not like I am adding links to obscure or foreign language websites...

Links to Wikipedia provide (most of the time) complete biography.
Links to Zenial.nl provide (most of the time) good covers, reviews/votes, lyrics *in one file*, sometimes "extra info" (credits, scans of inside covers) for albums.
Point whoring is one thing, but punishing (without any warning) users because they do a lot of mods ("they must be guilty of something") is stupid. Also, at least half of my points are from reports of mistakes I spotted in the database, by thorough comparison between sites like... Wikipedia, Zenial.nl, MusicBrainz & Discogs (I didn't add links to the last two as I never saw them linked here, contrary to Wikipedia and Zenial.nl which are heavily linked - but actualy Discogs links could be really useful).

Only sites dedicated to the band should be added. It's ok to add other sites if the band has no fan sites.

I see my Wikipedia page has been vandalized two times. You people are just stupid.
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?tit ... d=41209572
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?tit ... d=43338384
And I don't copy information from M-A to Wikipedia (copyright issues). Also, you can't "own" information about discographies (the only common information with Wikipedia).
To finish, as I explained before, links to Wikipedia are not useless.

Yeah, it was stupid to vandalize your wikipedia page.

We don't want to "own" any information here. Anyway, we're asking you to stop adding wikipedia links. Is it such a difficult thing to do?

You are asking me to stop only because I have done a lot of edits and it annoys you.
So, why don't your remove all those links? Why are there loads and loads of bands linked to their Wikipedia pages (and why do you think I added Wikipedia pages?) ?

It's simple. 1. You added links to (at least) wikipedia and zenial.nl. 2. This isn't encouraged here. 3. If you keep doing this and don't stop complaining you will lose points and/or be dusted. 4. Other useless links (on other bandpages) will be deleted too, it just takes some time because of the size of the database.

And I'm not going to argue with you about (subliminal) pedophile/pederasty.

Yeah, you'd better stop arguing, as you don't have any argument - for both debates.
Now I understand why the database is full of mistakes.

No, editing does not annoy me. How did you reach such a conclusion?

We constantly remove them, and someone always add them again.

Adding a bunch of worthless links that have no more (when it's not LESS) information about the band than the actual Encyclopaedia band entry. Also applies to links to CD reviews or interviews as "fan sites". Exception: if the band is very very obscure and this link to an interview is one of the only reference to the band on the Web, it might be tolerated.

Wikipedia links have information that is not on Encyclopaedia Metallum, as I stated before.

Quote:
For those with the Veteran rank: you may update URLs or delete broken links. Do not delete valid links! You are allowed to delete broken, false or unrelated links, to keep the integrity of the information. Deleting valid links just for the hell of it, or to spite the owner of the linked site, or whatever stupid reason, is LAME and will not be tolerated. If this becomes problematic, we'll simply prevent users other than the moderators from deleting links. Sad but true.

Oooh...

Could you please just answer these simple questions:

1. Did you added Wikipedia links?
2. Are you aware that it's not encouraged?
3. Will you stop doing this?
4. Do you seriously consider Wikipedia a better source of information as this website?

I did add them. I don't deny facts.

No. By who? Where did you see that?

I guess I don't have the choice, but I seriously doubt that all users of this website are as stupid as you. Well, I hope.

Oh? If I thought so, should I be punished? Did you read the ad hominem article? :)
Seriously, these two (great) websites are not comparable.

By Evenfiel and christkiller, at least, and this sub-forum.

I'm stupid for following the rules and trying to encourage other people to do so. Ok.

You said this site is full of errors. Please don't think everybody else except you is unaware of certain things. I'm aware of Wikipedia, I sometimes contribute there as well. The thing is that most of the band-pages there aren't "moderated" in any form and thus a lot of garbage is written there. Plus very, very few of them hold additional information.

Humm this is getting ridiculous now..

TO ALL USERS: STOP ADDING LINKS THAT DO NOT BRING ANY NEW INFO THAN THOSE LISTED HERE...

IF YOU THINK A LINK CAN PROVIDE A NEW INFO OR AN "INTERESTING/FORGOTTEN" FACT ABOUT A BAND, MAKE A REPORT, HIGHLIGHTING THIS FACT AND A MODERATOR WILL CHECK THAT...

:ugh:

Question: If I submit a band and besides the official homepage there's also an interview with info on the band, which can't be found on the homepage, should I add the interview as a link or should I just report it as additional info for the mod who looks at it?

FateGlimpse is adding links to deviantart.com for lots of major and semi-major bands (Nightwish, Epica, In Flames, Katatonia, Within Temptation...).

Just ban this pankkake fuckwit. He clearly cannot take a hint and argues the point even after being told when something is discouraged. Let him hang around MusicBrainz since they are so much more openminded to acts of faggotry.

BTW - I noticed that on the first track of Black Dahlia Murder - Unhallowed someone has put lyrics as 'intro'. I didn't bother reporting it simply because I thought a Mod might get the shits have to deal with such immaturity but anyone with the power might want to delete it. I'm guessing you can't go back and find out who submitted it...

i was just about to post about him. in some cases he even puts 2 links to his site on one band page. one for an interview and one for a review.

Review@Ondalternativa
Interview@Ondalternativa (italian)

both on the vision divine page. its his site apparently

EDIT: also, people keep adding poorly made websites with minimal info as "official fan clubs". delete these or change them to fan pages (rather than official) if you see them :)

offal_grinder is adding this link to many NWOBHM bands

http://truemetal.org/battle/remasters1.html

Actually, there is only 1 mp3 of the bands.. I don't see the point of adding those links

Majority of those releases are very rare, so it is the only possibility for collectors or interested people to find out, how the band sounds like. Another thing, which can be doubted, is adding it for bands with songsamples at Vibrations of Doom page, even if those mp3s sound way better than the RA files there.

I think zofir http://metal-archives.com/userprofile.php?user=zofir added wrong infos on Lamia http://metal-archives.com/band.php?id=39127.
The photo, the 3 boxed sets and the past members must be fakes.
