this must have been discussed, please point me to the resolution. thanks :)

a human (i smirk as i'm typing this) uses AI to generate artwork. how does the credit go? do we mention the AI, the human, both (how?), or neither?

for example, on this release https://www.metal-archives.com/albums/S ... 29/1185154

the bandcamp credits (and facebook post) inform us that the artwork was generated by Midjourney, as used/manipulated by Bob Katsionis
https://skyward1993.bandcamp.com/album/ ... ry-edition

is the credit on the site correct?

thanks :)

An artist page for AI is preposterous. Might as well credit Audacity.

You can mention "Cover art generated by AI" on the additional notes, but that's about it. Definitely no one should get credit for entering a prompt, fuck that noise.

Guess we'll have to make a news post about this....

Based on that logic one can also argue that programmed instruments shouldn't be credited, yet fully programmed bands are accepted and even worse AI generated bands are also accepted. As I see it, the person who generated the artwork using AI should be credited by his name with maybe something like (AI generated artwork) next to it. Don't get me wrong, I also think that this is BS but this is where things are going nowadays.

But drum programming does not generate for you, you need to do songwriting (and match the rhythm with other instruments too), unlike AI that you just enter a text of two words, and voilĂ , you got a artwork.

Depends really, there really is tasteful use of AI in artwork like if you need textures quicktime, or they could be used as part a collage or way that's actually representing something you know something that actually takes some effort and has a meaning in it's use (Terrorizer - World Downfall as an example of such a thing with photographs), but yeah if they just slapped a logo on top of what they generated with "badass skull with a sword through it" on bing then that's not really artwork credits, that's Layout credits.

Does that mean that if a band or album credits a specific person with "artwork", that person should still not be credited on MA if they used AI to generate the art in question?
