It's well-known that cover bands aren't allowed here, yet I've found some, clearly labeled as such, yet not removed. Is there an exception for traditional songs?

Here are the rules. Read the part about "Cover/tribute/gimmick bands" a bit more carefully and you'll know the answer.

Well yeah. Bound to be a few updates in over a decade. :) That being said, yeah, this exception has been implicit since (I suppose) the beginning (I didn't know about it either in my early days as a mod), but was not made explicit in the rules until relatively recently.
