Same here. I was happy with msn but hell, this Fb thing became massive. Anyway, now with an active band going on it has been a bit useful.

Here, people (especially students) don't stop asking for the desolution/reduction of the army so that money can pay free uni careers. It's hilarious.

In other news, I wanna play live so badly. I've been absent from stage for months.

You missed the real life hangout though. John_Sunlight dubbed it the MA Illuminati meeting. Records exist but are private. Leaked information is that John_Sunlight ate goat.

I would go on with my band but alas - no drummer. And no candidates in sight. Sucks. At least our name is cool - "Booze Bastards".

This might be a stupid question, but what's the hilarious part?

My father was both in the military and law enforcement, and I grew up with more military than non-military adults in my life (variety of branches). They were all some of finest people I've known. I've had one encounter with law enforcement, and he was amiable, if a tad frustrating. Sure, some of military/police/whatever are real assholes. Some are really good people.

Guess what? Every occupation is like that.

I don't like the concept of Memorial Day and things of the sort, because if something is really important to you, you shouldn't need a specific day to remind you to think of it, or prove to all your friends that you're a right fine patriot (or whatever the holiday is about). Of course, in America, everything is an excuse for commercialism.

And I guess it seems a little strange to me, piggy-backing off of my first remarks to MFR, the emphasis that is provided on military service. Are other people who have sacrificed of themselves, even their lives, outside of military service not included? Do we include those who have died for an unjust cause included? Maybe I'm just not getting it.

I suppose this is the beauty of culture. Celebrate it what's important to you, and let other people do the same.

Since when did I believe that rebellion is "cool"? I don't find disliking corrupt law enforcement as a "cool thing to do". You're probably mixing me up with kids that do particular activities because it is popular. And how am I everything wrong with today's young people in this country? Most of America's young people don't really care about the world around them AT ALL until something very big and terrible happens like the Sandy Hook shootings and say they are "disgusted with today's world" ONLY because of big disasters that gets everyone's attention. Hell, before the Boston Bombings, no mentioned ANYTHING on how bad it was in other countries, but the SECOND the news channels like CNN report the Boston Bombings and people start hearing about it, people start mentioning the terrible conditions other countries by comparing it the aftermath of the Bombings in Boston.

Maybe hilarious is not the problem but misinformed seems adequate. Quite long to answer, but I'll try to go to the point.

This year are elections, so there are both the endless promises from the candidates and the endless requests from people. Among all the stuff that's wrong/insufficient here, people is fixated on the 'free uni for everyone' thing and has been like that for 4 years straight. The public health system is bad. the violence rate is increasing, the primary and secondary education are bad, the salaries are generally low, life cost as been rising a lot lately... there are plenty of stuff that needs more attention right now and the army has been reduced a lot in the last 20 years and their share on the nation's budget is minimal, as opposed to the salaries of the government employees and their constant salary rises, way higher than the average salary adjustment seen here.

The argument has been like the bad education has been the guilty for 'inequity' of classes, so they want to fix this providing free unis for everyone. This argument has some logical flaws, given our small country and other more obvious things:

-No one is trying to fix primary and secondary education, which is the most crucial moment in life to learn and develop your skills. If you're provided of mediocre education for almost 15 years, 4 years in uni won't fix the problem.

-This high demand has brought tons of unis that don't make much filters for admission, are expensive as fuck, bad in terms of the education provided but people goes to them anyway cause they feel it's the only way to get a 'real' and 'good' job.

**Regarding this point, it's not true. Here at least, people into technical level (careers of 3 or less years) are earning as much if not more than 'professionals'. Since there are so many students and professionals around, their value has decayed considerably, and since the private system of Unis has been proved to be mediocre, the laboral market is filled by mediocre professionals. While unemployment is not a problem right now, the kind of unemployeed people has changed. Now you can see engineers as taxi drivers or working at a supermarket (it's not like those jobs are bad, but they studied to do something entirely different).

Professors are protesting with the students for the free uni stuff AND their salaries' rise, but they've been opposing to be evaluated for years. They are a huge factor for the current education to be so bad and they don't want to improve themselves to improve the whole educational system, but they want higher salaries. Students also fail to see this.

The money. To simply change that, it requires an insane amount of money to do it and, being Chile a copper dependant country, the incomes of the nation are very variable. There have been years of great losses for the copper price to fall, which is the actual tendency.

Now, it's not like I want my country as a military one but we're actually facing problems with Peru and Bolivia for territorial matters; The peruvian government is demanding Chile to La Haya for maritime limits and Bolivia is doing the same thing; from those countries there's been a lot of threaten (especially from Evo Morales) and both countries has been getting tons of new armament, especially Peru. Just some years ago some peruvian soldiers got into Chile without authorization, all of them armed to the teeth. Not long ago some bolivians did the same and (out of newspapers) there's been some cross fire in the borders constantly. This also happens sometimes with Argentinians at the very south.

--0--

About US occupations in other countries, from the outside most other countries and people think USA do them for oil and other commodities to manage and/or enemy governments to erase, to place people who's willing to go according to USA's government agenda. How true is this? I dunno, but that's what everyone think about it.

I just saw Christopher Lee was added on bandlist. If I recall correctly, I was here when he released first album and it was on archives. It wasn't heavy metal, just some kind of symphonic rock and I guess it was deleted.
I'm just saying he should stay in the archives this time, because being 90 and rocker/metalhead is what I plan to be. I plan to torture my great-grandkids with some oldschool death metal.

Just some stupid things I wanted to write here because I'm bored.

I have a similar ambition. If financially possible, I'll keep releasing death metal albums as long as I'm physically able to play a guitar.

In reality, of course, a couple of years into my career and I'll give up all that.

I hope my gradnkids will still be shocked by brutal death metal when I'm ninety... eh, no they won't. They will be into scavenger-skull-bongo music paired with the inhuman screams of water-thieves getting eaten alive by mutated rats.

The 'Laguna del Desierto' stuff was the last real dispute, but in these years there have been illegal intrusions from time to time. The most notorious one was an argentinian military speedboat that got into chilean sea and was taken down into the fjords. No country made any comment about it but I was living at south at the time and we all knew about it.

Chile is quite the pacific country indeed. Sadly, Peruvians and Bolivians are educated to hate us and their goverments, to stray the attention of their citizens from their internal struggles and corruption, they tease Chile constantly with threats and many nonsensical stuff.

I just got to say - I find it awesome that the user who submitted Christopher Lee to the archives is "Lord Sauron"

Well, the first Charlemagne album was indeed mostly symphonic rock, musically. The second one is clearly metal, though, so no worries.

The thing that confuses me is that the second album is apparently the same story as the first album? Wat.

Besides which, people who work too hard at a job like that don't even get the nod when there is upward mobility. Why would they promote their most productive guy? The skills it takes to be a good assembly line worker (or whatever) aren't at all the same skills it takes to be a good assembly line supervisor. I've seen it before where guys who really REALLY wanted a promotion worked their asses off (as in, staying for hours of overtime they weren't even getting paid for) and I never once saw them get promoted. Honestly the managers just seemed uncomfortable with how hard these guys were working; I'm sure they'd already made the decision not to promote these guys based on other factors that hard work of that nature wouldn't change (intelligence, trustworthiness, how much they liked the guy, etc.).

Just do what you're told, meet expectations, and take SMALL amounts of initiative when it's something you'd almost certainly be told to do anyway if your bosses knew it had to be done. If you're not sure you're supposed to be doing it, ask your boss if you ought to. Every boss I've had has appreciated me asking them if I should be doing something extra (when it's reasonably within my job's duties). That's the best way I've found to get promoted within your workplace. Taking excessive initiative and doing way more than necessary is much less likely to help you.

This post is a few days old now but I'd like to point out that this is an excellent point that my fellow manual workers should take into consideration in addition to the stuff I said on the subject.

I see. I don't know much about Peru other that they have constant disputes with Chile, but Evo Morales is a fucking dick, I remember some years ago when he ordered a take over of a brazilian-run natural gas extracting usine(which was allowed to function with an agreement between the two countries), and threatened to shut down all the gas ducts that supplied Brazil, with basically no justification.

Yeah but having to put a smile on your face and saying "I support everything these groups did to help our country be number one. GO AMERICA!!" knowing that there are people who are in these groups that do such horrible things because they wear a badge/specific uniform is just dumb.

Being a person that's not from the states, I always thought that Memorial Day was to honour the police and soldiers who risk their lives everyday in the name of their country. My dad's a cop and the best man I'll ever know, and he and my grandfather both served in the military. While I don't necessarily support everything the police and military does, I'm sure as hell not going to talk down to an entire group of people who have volunteered to put themselves in danger every day. These people have cases sacrificed "normal" family lives, even their marriages in a number of cases, and have seen utterly horrible things that you and I probably never will experience or understand. The least we can do is honour these people who have seen the worst of what humanity has to offer so we (the public, the average civilian) don't have to.

It is. People who want to bitch about something will always find a way though. It's actually one of the only holidays I consider to be truly deserved.

There's a high difference between Valentines Day (at least what it has become in commercialized society) and Veterans Day. Buying a card and flowers so your significant other will put out is a far cry from celebrating the lives and sacrifices of the people risking their lives to keep us safe. (For the record I agree that Valentines Day is horse shit and I don't do it either).

The purpose of Veterans Day is more to give people who already honor and respect the sacrifices of veterans in their daily lives and excuse to do so loudly, and to remind those that don't that they should be doing so.

I believe I just figured out how to include my signature in posts. I can't believe I didn't figure it out until now.

"The Autistic Metalhead?" What, was "Self-Diagnosed Asperger's..." too multisyllabic for a title? I guess he'd have to fight MFR for the rights to it but knowing them, they'd probably just high-five each other and go out for milkshakes or something.
