My cat had a cyst in a sweat gland on the back of her neck (I know, cats? sweat glands?) It got really big and one day I just squeezed it and it popped, sounded like a gun going off. Shot clear liquid all over the place, and the cat walked away like nothing happened. Weird.

I thought cats only had sweat glands in their paws.

Care to name some of those bands you're talking about that incorporate other elements? Because as much as I like re-thrash (I don't really care about originality that much as long as it sounds good) it does get a bit stale.

Went to CA for a week so this reply is about 10 pages late but for new and interesting thrash bands that incorporate elements from other genres check the following:

Ramming Speed - mixing in grindcore and some traditional metal elements here and there
http://tdbrecords.bandcamp.com/album/9-songs

ANS - these dudes actually started in a much more skatecore / hardcore style and kinda sped up over time. Their tracks on the split below with Ramming Speed are rad.
http://downloads.tankcrimes.com/album/ans-ramming-speed

Radiolokator - incorporates some nice death metal elements and even some blasting here and there
http://doomentiarecords.bandcamp.com/album/split-4

Infernal Stronghold - lots of black metal elements and some punk stuff especially in their earlier output.
http://infernalstronghold.bandcamp.com/

Insufferable Ingrate - rad crossover with lots of blasting
http://insufferableingrate.bandcamp.com/

Spewtilator - incorporates death metal and grindcore
http://spewtilator.bandcamp.com/

Deceptor - some nice traditional heavy metal elements and a bit of a different approach than most newer thrash bands
http://deceptor.bandcamp.com/

Coffin Dust - more death metal than thrash but there's a good helping of both
http://coffindust.bandcamp.com/album/an ... uried-evil

Sadistic Ritual - these dudes play pretty straight up thrash but they rule
http://borisrecords.bandcamp.com/album/ ... ercenary-7

Cauldron - kinda different aesthetic than most thrash bands though they definitely worship Slayer
http://cauldron6.bandcamp.com/

Just got some Bose QC15 headphones for my birthday. So far they are sounding very good. Took me a bit to figure out why they were so quiet with everything maxed out and turned out I needed to put the battery in...

Sounds like one of those alternative / radio rock bands making their 19 year old vocalist do harshes when his voice hasn't cracked yet (I've seen plenty of college freshmen with this problem). Oof, and trust me I listen to a ton of progressive metalcore - this guy's a joke. Good for the guy fucking with them.

Immediately made me think of Olly Sykes on BMTH singing "I got a secret". I never got passed the opening words of that song...

I'm willing to bet the video would have been just as embarrassing without the remix. Anywho, looks like there's some details about a new Triptykon album coming out next spring. I'm optimistic that it will stack up next to the debut.

That's good news indeed. I liked the direction of the first album, but there is still so much room for improvement. It did have quite a tendency to drag. A new album is a chance to improve on that.

Disappointingly, all he did was track the vocals over some shitty dance music, he didn't fuck with the original music from the sound of it.

They'll be playing here too, and I'll likely go, but I seem to remember some crap band was opening. WHy can't they get VOivod? Voivod and Gorguts would be an amazing bill, and Mongrave has already played session for Gorguts so I'm sure they know one another. Come on, guys!

Gorguts and Voivod would be fucking incredible but I mean two headlining bands like that doesn't really work nahmean? It would be too much for me to handle I feel.

Nah, I think it'd be perfect. They don't even have to book another band. I mean most shows have at least three bands on the bill already, and chances are high that the openers are some crappy local act.

I'm really rather excited about this. :hyper: I've started to listen to the debut again in the last few weeks, so this announcement was timed perfectly for me. I do hope it lives up to the promise of the first record's sound... and that it won't be hampered by the expectations people will inevitably have.

Mario Blejer (former IMF official and governor of Argentina's central bank) commenting on the Finacial Times,

Spoiler: show
Quote:
It is apparent that, if not forced sooner by politics, the inevitable default will only be allowed to take place when the vast part of the European distressed debt is transferred from the private to the official sector. As in a pyramid scheme, it will be the last holder of the “asset” that takes the full loss. In this case, it will be the taxpayer that foots the bill, rather than the original bondholders that made the wrong investment decisions

Holy fucking shit batman! I never even heard about this tour and I just checked like two months ago and there was nothing. Just bought my ticket for Chicago. Can't even say how excited I am for this also can't believe it was only $20. So happy I decided to check out the FFA today instead of actually eating lunch.

And now Nik Turner's Hawkwind is playing on Saturday at 4PM. Fuck. I feel my city is having some sort of resurgence and it feels awesome.

So I was revisiting this album today and I realized I have no idea what the title means. Does it refer to the fact that there are six tracks total (counting the second disc as one son) or does it reference the six separate stories that are talked about on the second disc?

The latter. The six degrees in the album and song title are referring to each of the six disorders/syndromes talked about in the song.

It's about fucking time bands started to come to anywhere in Upstate NY and not just flock to the city. Thank you for bringing this show to my attention!

Band practice today :)

Hopefully we can get enough material by the third so we can open for Samothrace. If not then, well we'll probably have to wait until January for a show with Wight that I'm booking. Is Boot Rot a decent enough sounding name?

I wish gigs worth attending happened up here, ever. There's been a handful over the past 5 or so years that I didn't bother with because they weren't bands I was particularly interested in, but I'm starting to feel like just heading to the first remotely worthwhile gig I can find in the city now. I guess if I lived in Glasgow I'd have far more options. There's a Dillinger Escape Plan gig at the start of November up here. I don't listen to those guys (or any bands similar to them) but I'm considering going for the fuck of it, just to get out and see people perform live music. Last band I saw other than shitty local rock bands was Napalm Death 7 years ago.

Book shows yourself, it's simple enough to do if you've got a house with a basement, or talk to dive bars. The first show I booked in town was for two East coast bands and one from Vancouver at a friends house, so it should be easy enough.

On the subject of band practices, we're doing our first practice since February on Friday, and then another one on Sunday before a radio gig we've got in Boston. Considering we're doing an hour-and-a-half set next week and every song we're doing except two is a new song, it's pretty much required on our part.
