Happens every year at Halloween, lately, seems like. Some frat kids host some sort of racist Halloween party, or you see pictures floating around of people throwing on blackface as part of their costume or something like that.

Yeah but to act like people wearing blackface is degrading our society and creating the idea that it is okay to insult, mock and hate black people is probably the most ridiculous things I've EVER heard in my life. Just a bunch of uptight white kids who feel they have to stand up for "whats right". I've never heard a black person complain about blackface.

Actually, there is a picture floating around facebook in my hometown taken in one of the clubs with a kid sporting blackface, everyone is pretty flabbergasted by it. The fact that the club would put it on facebook for promotional purposes with radio station watermarks really boggles my mind,. I'm not sure what kind, if any, fallout has or will take place, but it is really insensitive. I mean, painting your face black and wearing a Chicago Bulls sweatshirt... I don't know man. Doesn't sit right with me, and I'm not usually one to be overly "PC" about stuff like that.

Edit: As far as Alestorm goes, I honestly had no idea they were basically a full fledged joke band now. Whatever floats your boat I guess.

Did you get your own country right at least? :)
Got 99%. Confused Montenegro with Bosnia, and it took me about 5 minutes to realize what F.Y.R.O.M. is. The Balkans are too complicated.
Countries are pretty easy. I'd be fucked if was capitals or flags.

92% on my first try.
97% on my second try.
99% on my third try.

100% came on my fifth try.

South-East Europe was the hardest group. Croatia I remember because of Dalmatia, which once had a language related to Italian called Dalmatian. Slovenia I remember because I was in southern Austria back in 2004 and was right by the border, I could see into Slovenia. Kosovo is easy because it shares the same color as Serbia. The border between Kosovo and Serbia is gray instead of black. If you take Serbia and Kosovo out, you get a sort of "V" shape of countries between Italy, Greece and Turkey. They are ordered like this: Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Montenegro, Albania, FYROM, Bulgaria.

From north to south: Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania. Estonia was easy because they are sometimes considered a Scandinavian country and Estonian is a Uralic language.

Tiny countries that need red circles drawn around them are also easy to remember. Malta and Cyprus are island countries - Cyprus is off on the lower right corner so it's easy to miss. Vatican City is exactly where Rome is located. San Marino looks like it should have a marina by the sea in Italy (it doesn't, it's an enclave). Andorra kind of sounds like a Spanish or Ibero-Gallic name. Monaco is stuck in France but is really close to Italy. I've visited Liechtenstein - one way to remember which is which between Liechtenstein and Luxembourg is to think which one has a frenchier sounding name. The one that's between Germany, France and Belgium: Luxembourg.

Moldova is easy to remember once you keep in mind that the language Moldovan is extremely similar to Romanian. I think the difference is as slight as the difference between American and British English.

Belarus and Ukraine are the two big Slavic countries right next to Russia. Ukraine is bigger.

So, now I wonder what your score is for the other quizzes:
http://www.lizardpoint.com/geography/samerica-quiz.php

My first attempt was 82%

http://www.lizardpoint.com/geography/ce ... b-quiz.php

First attempt was 92%

http://www.lizardpoint.com/geography/africa-quiz.php
First attempt was 76%

This is probably the hardest one, because of the number of countries.

http://www.lizardpoint.com/geography/asia-quiz.php

First attempt was 92%

http://www.lizardpoint.com/geography/mideast-quiz.php
First attempt was 89%

http://www.lizardpoint.com/geography/usa-quiz.php
First attempt was 100% :p

http://www.lizardpoint.com/geography/oceania-quiz.php

When I said Africa was hard.... um, this one is harder. First attempt was 45%.

From the Panopticon facebook page. Really excited about this.
Spoiler: show
Quote:
It has been a long day. I have been super busy with work this week, so I am a little behind filling orders..I'm sorry to the people who have been waiting...I am about a week or so behind....but typically everything around here is a mad dash to get it all done, any how.
But...as of today tracking for the new album is complete. it took over 2 years to write it all and about 9 months to track it all, but it is done. The album sees Johan Becker reprise his role on the fiddle (this time contributing MUCH more and with more diversity)... he also contributed some moog and sung vocals on a couple parts. Winterherz from Waldgeflüster was so kind to add sung vocals and screams to a song, Blondel De Nesle of Obsequiae fame contributed his voice, Ben Smith of When bitter spring sleeps and S.A.P. fame contributed vocals to 2 tracks, and Dave Condon, formerly of the mighty Altar of Plagues is currently working on his addition.
The album is over 70 minutes long and draws from many styles of metal as well as folk music and even some very dark neo classical influences. Conceptually, it is a very very personal and non political record. Musically is it diverse but is consistently more melancholic and melodic than my previous efforts.
The album will go to Colin Marston's studio in November and Art work and a release date will be announced in the coming weeks.
An announcement is coming this week regarding the future of Panopticon and the direction this project is taking (before you speculate, I am NOT quitting and I am NOT starting a live band...)
Thanks again for all of your support and patience. I really appreciate it. And for the folks who are waiting on their merch, it will be in your mail box as soon as possible.
-Austin

Also, Agalloch has debuted a song off their new album live. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like anyone bothered to put it on youtube.

I remember when, being born in '88 I was the youngest kid on metal forums. A few years later, circa 2004, someone born in the 90s showed up, and was even younger. What was really cool was how much the older folks taught us - part of why I have such an extensive knowledge of melodeath that later lay dormant for years. MadTinus, if you're reading this, thanks for those Detonation CDs and all the recommendations 10-12 years ago!

To be honest, I think blackface is funny when done right. I'm not down with that PC BS.

Church of Misery are possibly postponing their tour due to the inability to get their visa's because our government was shut down. While it is lame they are having issues with their Visa's this gives more people the chance to see them.

One of the things which always gets me is how shit some of the people on here who are ostensibly 19-20-21 or-so are at acting their age. I came here when I was 17, and like to think I've never been quite as dense as some.

Ok. I'm going to do this even though I'm not sure I like where the discussion has already headed. So blackface, if I'm understanding, is supposed to be caricature or exaggeration by nature, right? Is it always that way? I mean if you have a white actor playing a black character in a movie and he's "blacked up", is that blackface? Because i don't really see anything wrong with that, myself. Sure, nowadays you could say "well surely they could find someone who looks more African to play this part", but especially for older films and TV productions, that just wasn't the case much of the time. Besides, a good actor is a good actor regardless of what race they belong to. Nobody complained about Sean Connery, a Scottsman, playing a Russian (though it is debatable whether he's actually a good actor ... heh heh)
