The "Predator" theme is pretty heavy, by this thread's standards.

there is no soundtrack more manly than that one... the Robocop, Terminator/T2, Starship Troopers soundtracks come close though...

For me the breakcore/noise genre can be heavy if not moreso than Metal depending on which artist you follow. Merzbow, Venetian Snares, Electric Kettle, Datachi, and so on have all had the desired effect of making people react in disgust without ever including a guitar or drum note in them.

Venetian Snares can be ridiculously dark and menacing at times. I really enjoy Bang-Ra as well when it comes to breakcore.

You mean Bong Ra right? Yeah, Snares can be pretty menacing and very chaotic. Both guys are cool.

Yeah, I didn't notice the typo. I haven't listened to either of those guys in years. I'm going to get on that!

recently discovered Nocturnal Neurosis from South AFrica. Very weird and sometimes heavy.

Someone mentioned King Crimson and I agree.

Also, I think Pink Floyd has some really heavy stuff, if not in sound, certainly in atmosphere. Just listen to Animals or The Wall. In fact, i came to reafirm my opinion that The Wall is a really heavy album after seeing Roger Waters' concert last year when he played that album in it's entirety.

Just the mood swings over the work is amazing, you know, starting with In the Flesh (which, by the way, has an amazing could-have-been-heavy-metal riff) passing through more soft moments like Mother, Hey You and Comfortably Numb coming to an epic end.
