I've noticed that a lot of cats do that, they seem to hate belly rubs. All except my cats. My theory is that they grew up around our dogs, and thus noticed the dogs getting attention that way, so they figured "Hey, lets do that too!".

We used to have a cat but had to get rid of it because it wouldn't stop attacking the dogs. It would literally set them up! I shit you not- it would steal bread, hide it under a chair, wait, then pounce on the dog when it went for it.
