I've been thinking about it. It all depends upon what job I might end up getting, but, I'd be down for the long-hair again.

Also I wouldn't say I'm handsome, just average. :P

Don't let the Man keep you down Derigin! Grow that hair out and be "hawt".

We'll see, I usually get sick of it at the hockey hair phase.

That's what hats are for my friend, you may look a bit goofy for a few months but they really help (at least for me) you get past that awkward medium length phase. That and whenever I grow it out I like to use the winter time as cover (I've cut and grown a few times over the years) because then you're almost always wearing a hat or a hood and it's a bit warmer to have more hair so you have some incentive to keep it.

I'm just now entering the seriously awkward phase myself. Real thick, curly hair that gravity hasn't taken hold of yet so it just looks like an 80's nerd, or, if I run my hand through it a few times, it poofs out into a jewfro type thing. It's been about five months since I cut it. I'm seriously hoping around 7-8 months it starts moving downward a bit.

Lots of hairspray and a ponytail can work nicely, as long as your hair isn't extremely curly.

It's real curly, and definitely not long enough for a pony tail just yet.

Yeah that awkward not quite long enough for a pony tail phase sucks balls and is a big part of why I won't cut my hair again because I hate it so much. Batman have you tried using a straightener? They're very effective in controlling crazy hajr especially the curly kind.

Never have, nope. I may give it a shot (though I'll probably just make some female friend do it for me first to see if it works, lol) once it gets long enough that it could definitely at least go into a ponytail once it's straightened.

There's also a couple different kind of products on the market to make your hair more manageable and pretty straight without ever touching a flat iron, though they do get kinda pricey. You should just have said lady friend straighten it up for you at this lenght and see how it looks. Plus it'll stay fairly well for a day or two as long as you don't get it wet in the shower.

I assume you already know, but curly hair is often naturally dry so don't straighten it often.

Why on earth would anyone want a pony tail? Also, who would want to straighten their hair?

I've never supported the pony tail on a man. It makes you look like a mid-90s IT guy. No thank you. On the other hand, a friend of mine recently put my hair in what she called a "sexy man bun" and I rocked the HELL out of it. My only problem now is I don't know how to do it myself so I can only be sexy when she's around to help.

I do the "man bun" on a regular basis. If my hair isn't just free flowing it's in some form of bun. Usue I just half ass it for work but if I'm going out a good %80 of thd the time I man bun it up.

I agree the generic pony tail can make one look kinda lame but I do see some men who can pull it off well, I just don't happen to be one.

Yeah, seriously. What kind of idiotic question is that? In fact my hair is so long that a ponytail isn't even enough for sports, I need to use a hair glove to avoid having my hair tangle up with the cords on my equipment.

Eh, I just don't think ponytails look very nice on guys. Sure, they're more convenient than wearing your hair down, but unless you're a girl I'd say it isn't worth the detrimental effect on one's appearance.

I kinda agree with that. I don't like having ponytails myself. If it's a windy day outside, or I suspect my hair will be all up in my face, I like to wear a bandanna instead. That usually does a fairly good job at keeping most of my hair locked in at the flanks and I prefer how it looks to a ponytail.

However.. I would like to try going with a fucking Viking braid sometime. Just for shits and giggles.

The secret to the ponytail is to leave yourself some bangs to work with. And also to be Crick Classic (TM).

Y'all are weird, or maybe I'm just totally desensitized to seeing dudes in ponytails. They look fine, as do buns and braids. Better than letting your hair get all ratty and scraggly at the ends.

Hm, where's the confusion here? I meant to say that I personally think only girls can pull off ponytails without it hampering their appearance. That was meant as a general "you", not you specifically, Morri.

I'd definitely sacrifice practicality for looks, yes. It's the very reason I ended up cutting my hair short earlier this year after growing it past my shoulders for two-and-a-half years: the only practical way to keep it from getting in the way was to have it in a ponytail, which I eventually decided looked rather ridiculous (granted, I have really curly hair, so I guess I'm somewhat of an exception as far as these things go... the same would go for Acrobat too, actually).

I spend about 20-30 cumulative minutes a day in front of a mirror maintaining my facial hygiene, so I'm probably the last person you'll hear complaining about anybody else being shallow. :oh shit:

Ponytails really don't look that bad. Well granted maybe they're not for everyone but most metalheads I know rock them just fine regardless of gender. I think that I look much worse with my hair behind tucked behind my ears. Talk about looking like 90s people (grunge fans  ).

I find that, as long as it isn't windy, if I tuck my hair behind my ears only the front bits actually remain tucked. The rest falls into place in-line with my temples but don't go much further than that. I find that to be a very comfortable and respectably presentable look. Though if there's a wind out, it'll fuck it right up.

Yeah this. Plus if you don't have an attractive forehead, it's not at all worth it. I used to tie my hair back all the time and it made my whole face look a lot more important.

jeez. I fucking wish I could grow hair long enough to be able to decide if I prefer a bun or pony tail. Actually .. I could, but then I'd be the guy who has long, great hair with a hat on and when he takes it off, it's a landing pad with a tail.
