Haha, I do wear them inside actually. They are my regular glasses, they just go dark when I go into the sunlight.

I too have tried to grow a Chechen battle beard in past seasons, but they always fall short of ancestral expectations. Did you know a Chechen's beard can actually detect when Russians are near? Defensive mechanism developed in the late 19th century.

Front row tickets at the NYC date are $607. Nosebleed seats are still $77.

$607! That seems like a lot to pay just to watch a small group of senior citizens slap each other on the back about how great they all used to be.

I recall paying around 30-40 € to see them and Thin Lizzy in 2012.

It was 70 to 80 bucks, gigs are more expensive here, not Australian prices though, I was lucky to get a free ticket.

True. But that's what they called themselves.

@iamntbatman: That's insane. Regional usury fucking sucks, but especially so in the context of heavy metal (just like seat segregation btw). Or are venues in NYC really >10 times as expensive as elsewhere?

I saw Thin Lizzy around then aswell and it was a good show and they never pretended they could replace Phil. It is not like the kids like me could have seen them back in the day so it was worth it to me.

I agree. Still, they're more of a tribute band than a revival.

Pet picture time!

Image

This is Sapphire, a Clumber Spaniel / Australian Shepherd mix that my mom is adopting. She's deaf and has epilepsy, though the latter is controlled easily with meds. My mom's always tried to take care of the "broken" dogs that no one else wants to adopt.

Humorously enough she took to me pretty much as soon as I walked in the door to visit this weekend; her foster caretaker said her last owner was a guy and she's apparently very affectionate toward men on account of that (interesting as that's different from several other adopted dogs I've known.)

I've had so many dreams about seeing Phil Lynott play live that I almost have false memories of seeing the 'real' Thin Lizzy live.

No interest in the tribute act or the *TERRIBLE* Black Star Riders.

And so my treachery to heavy metal is now complete, as I own not one, but two Skrillex shirts. RIP metal cred (though hey, Tenron poster in the background, hyuk hyuk).

It's actually a pretty cool print, really. I don't really like buying black shirts anymore, but the cables and solid white stripe look really cool. Better shot of the details:

Dear userbase,

Please don't let this devolve into a discussion about your personal masturbation habits. It would be most unfortunate if I had to start culling the herd for such a trivial reason.

I knew there were some rather.. unpleasant (to say the least) rumours about us over on the mainland, but we're also mysterious to folks in the US? Wow, and I thought my little island was a forgotten part of the world. But nope, I've lived here my whole life. No purple skin or anything. Though I'll be honest, that would be pretty damn cool. An island full of that-chick-from-X Men look alikes :-P

I vaguely remember Andrew Bolt or some other reactionary political commentator going on about how Tasmanians seek to destroy the Mainland Australian way of life...

Tasmanians do look slightly different to us mainlanders, must be that feral, murderous look in their eyes - or they're just bored down there.
