The doctor's lawyer, Guy Cook, told DesMoinesRegister.com his client plans to vigorously fight the charges.

"It is unprecedented to turn unfortunate deaths or medical results into a crime against a doctor," the lawyer said. "Unexpected deaths can occur in severe, chronic pain patients, unrelated to medical treatment. This is especially true with patients who are drug addicts or drug abusers."

I know the hate Slipknot has here, but the guy's story was tragic, and this only makes it both sadder and more frustrating. If it's true, I hope he does time, not to mentin stripping away his medical license.

mmmmmm prescription pills indeed.

My liver aches off and on now because the temptation to use codeine with acetaminophen in it was too great, and the withdrawals had me shivering and feverish on the verge of puking. Hope I don't die a slow painful death from liver failure any time soon. :|

I like how they all blame the doctors - in MJ's case, now this one and many others. I do understand that many docs prescribe pills to they patients in order to push the pharma agenda of higher sales. In many cases people go to different docs and get different pills and then combine them and overdose.

I think it's twofold though. There are corrupt docs and clinics just as much as there are conniving patients who visit multiple pill factories in a single day.
