I have a Carrera double cassette deck (model cx 3250) which is about 22 years old. Today my dad gave me the surround sound dvd player/stereo thats been in our living room for a while and I decided to hook this up to it since my old stereo shit the bed. Well, when I press play on any tape, I get an extremely loud, high pitched squeal that will make your ears ring for a half hour after hearing it. I have no clue what causes this because when I put my turntable through the same jack, it played fine. Any help ast to what it is and what I can do to fix it?

What is the input jack on the receiver called (e.g., aux, tape, phono, etc)?

You tried playing those awesome Temnozor and Graveland tapes you bought the other day and your deck couldn't handle the awesomeness!

Hahaha basically. I've heard from a few people that it might need to be cleaned. I'll clean the whole thing and report back if its any better.

I never did anything more than dusting mine off and it's been alive and kicking for more than two decades!

Cleaning the heads is important, but I think in this case it's more important to demagnetize them.
