Nope, they played the Corner Hotel, which surprised me; I thought they'd get the Hi-Fi or Billboard.

Oh, well colour me surprised then. Could have sworn I knew someone with stories about hanging out with Goatwhore are the Hi Fi... Maybe an earlier tour?

Yeah, I think the tour before this one was at the Hi-Fi; I know a few people who went to that one. The reduction in venue is pretty significant... and the Corner wasn't even sold out.

Damn, I've always found them mediocre, but I always thought their fan base was extremely solid.

I always liked their 'Carving Out the Eyes of God' album. The title track is probably my favourite by them. Their new album is cool, but not cool enough for me.

All this talk of Lynx reminds me of high school maths lessons where, to ensure that the asthmatic, elderly teacher wouldn't do any teaching, students would spray copious amounts of lynx in the classroom before she arrived so she'd leave the classroom immediately. Needless to say, my maths isn't the sharpest.

Alan Partridge is also a fan

And an excerpt from ConorFynes' review for their 2012 demo:
Quote:
Chainsaw Penis is not so much a grindcore band as it is a body of postmodern social criticism. From the poignant remarks made in "Metal is Gay" and "Fuck the X-Factor", it's clear that this is a group of gentlemen quite malcontent with the modern culture they deem to be decadent and shallow. It's dubious whether that much thought or intent went into Chainsaw Penis in the first place, but I like to think that it did.

 I'm rather sure he's being totally serious here.

I'm driving down to Melbourne on Friday. It's Tuesday morning here and it's going to be a long 3 days ahead - more work, fighting fatigue and depression, and general anticipation of finally getting days off in a row. I won't be in Melbourne for long but hopefully some good food and going to metal stores will happen.

"The Game" goes for 0:01. Kind of makes me want to check the band out.

Just talked to Sakis from Rotting Christ. He informed me that they have 2 songs sung in Greek on the upcoming album. My guess would be that one of them is the title track. This will turn out to be great, I'm sure! :-D

Talking of newly-added bands, I'm curious to check out Venomous Walrus.

Not sure if this has been posted in the forums.

I guffaw'd at the comment on behemoth. Anyway, the article is not about that.

Has anybody else seen Mark Twain's Mysterious Stranger? Little wonder this cartoon was banned, this is definitely not child-friendly.

Was it for kids though? I don't think just because it's claymation it was necessarily aimed at children. I don't know much of the history on this thing but isn't it based on an excerpt from a book Twain wrote which was SPECIFICALLY about Satan? He had some pretty forward thinking ideas/concepts in his day...

I never read the Twain book, but the IMDB page on it labels it under 'family'. I'm horrible, I know,.

Ah crap I'm pretty convinced now that I must be bipolar. Why else would my new printers' refusal to work and the ensuing stress of returning it - for the second time now - and the vague possibility of having annoyed my dad by calling him late - get me down like that. Week's probably gonna be shit now. :annoyed:

Because you're meant to make it yourself out of used syringes.

BTW, Nuclear Blast (.de) has a bunch of recent Candlemass CDs for 3 euros a pop, which is a great price. Of course, you'll probably get raped on the shipping but I'd just close my eyes when paying it and try and pretend it never happened.

Or you could just have anxiety-related issues. Just a thought for consideration.

So Earth was pretty awesome in concert if you like their post-reunion sound. The only pre-Bees Made Honey tracks they played were Tallahassee and Ouroboros Is Broken - and the latter was more like the Hibernaculum version than the original. Fortunately, that's exactly the sound I prefer. Would I recommend going? If seeing Earth live sounds like a good idea to you, then yes. It's not exactly a lively set, but great mood music. Eagle Twin was one of the openers, and they're worth seeing if for no other reason than the fact that they sounded like Sleep would have, if they had continued directly after Dopesmoker. Their set was pretty much one big drone/doom/"droom" jam.

And then there was Stebmo. Okay, now, I respect Steve Moore as a musician. He can play all right. He may not be the very best out there, but he's good enough. But oh my god. No. No one cares about your inane observations about the intersection of geometry and music, especially considering they were all the same observations made by Pythagoras and friends however many years ago. And in particular, no one gives a damn about your shitty pseudo-jazz. Give some aspie a ten dollar electronic keyboard and tell him to write "jazz" and you will get Stebmo's music. You know that guy in your employer's office who was in a jazz duo back in the 80s who never got anywhere (because he sucks) but still thinks he's hip to this day because of it? That guy played music indistinguishable from Stebmo.

Steve go back to playing Trombone PLEASE and let Dylan do the writing.

I'd caution against self-diagnosing yourself as bi polar, that can't be good for your anxiety. ;)

Anyway, saw Leonard Cohen last night and it was fantastic. At 78 he performed for almost 4 hours with one 15 minute intermission. His set list was great, covered hits from all his various eras and I was particularly delighted to hear 'Who by fire?', which was introduced by a wonderful eastern sounding solo on a 12 string guitar. His band was absolutely amazing too- all of them incredibly talented. The violinist especially blew me away, he was so expressive and skillful. Cohen's voice is no longer quite what it was and he has a bit of trouble capturing the sound of his earliest material, but he more than made up for it by delivering every line with presence and conviction, and his more recent material all sounded excellent.

Really, just an incredible show all around. If anyone is considering going to a date on his current tour, I highly recommend it.

Cool day too, I went to see Skyfall for the second time, my dad wanted to see it. Perhaps the greatest Bond ever. My friends from Kansass (including the famous John Sunlight) are coming tomorrow for Messe des Morts and we plan to play Arkham Horror Wednesday with our metal god, an occult week for sure! I need to do a list of things to get, but I'm afraid the only element will be "beer", yup!

I'm hoping to get this shirt, I hope there's one for fatties:
