Sorry, should've been clearer. Preferably metal, and not too underground. I'm looking really for a store that does a good range of the essential albums across the major subgenres. Guess you could say I'm upgrading my collection from a lot of mp3 downloads towards the real deal. CDs rather than vinyl too.

I'd think that FFDP would want a tall guy, to make the band look more 'badass'.

My guess is that the band already has a "frontman", and he doesn't want anybody to be taller than he, for that would take attention away from his strutting presence on stage.

Yeah, the requirements are stupid and shallow, but what would you expect from a band like this? It's not as though the material would be hard to play. Image is much more important to them than acquiring a musician who could easily play rings around all of them.

Yeah, bassists are to be heard and not seen. Usually not heard, either.

So my power was out from 1 in the afternoon Sunday until 5:30 in the evening Weds. With the hurricane coming up the east coast, I live in Pennsylvania. A couple power lines were knocked down in my community. Med Ed couldn't get out here in time to fix them so they just shut the power off in my community. All of the main roads in my town were flooded and all the stores along them were out of power. For half a week, this place looked like a Ghost Town. I was a very interest sight.

I wonder where the hangover is. It's at least 3 hours late already. I wonder if it has the wrong address. That, or I'm just immortal or something.

Sounds excellent. Wondering about the hangover though. Hopefully you had Rochefort with the Roquefort.

Also, at least something good came out of the Five-Finger Death Punch talk in here: Found out that their Bad Company is actually a cover and the original is awesome, bluesy rock stuff. I can't figure out why I haven't heard of Bad Company (the band) before. Gotta check this stuff out.

Despite being British, they seem more well-known in North America, particularly the USA. Don't have any of their albums myself but I did see them play an outdoor concert in 2000 or so and it was stellar.

The one up on his page right now is ideal to me, but I still associate Bathory with disgusting hellpaced metal, not tales of viking conquest.

Manowar wish they made a picture that primal and brutal, I mean look at how young he looks, like a mixture of Trent Reznor and insert x anime Character with long bangs and that makeshift pentagram

Speaking of Bathory...

Things That Kick the Ass of Other Things pt. II

Blood on Ice and the ass of Twilight of the Gods.

Even the hokey, badly-played "wise old man" interlude can't stop this album from stomping all over Twilight. Still can't see how anyone can rave about Twilight of the Gods. The title track is pretty good, but...

I've never heard anything past Hammerheart. In fact I'm still trying to figure out if Hammerheart does anything for me. I haven't been able to stop listening to the s/t since the band picture was brought up, though. What an undeniable, ineffable little slice of blasphemy.

Tonight, nothings sacred we desecrate and live in sin

Twilight of the Gods is actually a lot better than Hammerheart, I find. Fewer "hits" but way better overall. I'll never quite understand why Hammerheart is so revered - it's a solid album, sure, but it drags in places.

Weird, I find Hammerheart to be by far the less plodding of the two. One of Bathory's absolute best, imo. It took me a few go-rounds to really feel it, much like Blood on Ice, but once the power of tracks like "Shores in Flames," "Father to Son," and "Baptised in Fire and Ice" took hold, I don't think I could headbang hard enough. :D Oddly I've always found "One Rode to Asa Bay" to be the weakest track on the disc, whereas a lot of Bathory fans seem to heap praise on it. Same with "Blood Fire Death," I've always enjoyed it the least on its respective album.

Jesus, that MrFister is posting A LOT in the NP thread. I really don't see any reason to post there all the time. Ah well.

Revisited some Helstar. A Distant Thunder sounds much better than I had remembered. I'm still not really into Nosferatu though, but yeah. James Rivera can really shriek. :D

I was reading the responsible drug use thread and this question came to mind: Has anyone here ever experienced a perceptual change from excessive caffeine consumption? I don't mean feeling more alert, or even getting the jitters. I mean where it significantly changes your perception, like weed, alcohol, or other drugs. I have once, but I've never heard of anyone else experiencing this. (To be fair it was a combination of being well-rested, lots of caffeine, and bee pollen)

No, but I have had an acute OD on caffeine when I drank a bunch of coffee on top of taking a caffeine pill. It sucked: I was hot and sweating in the freezing library, and cold outside on a hot summer day. Couldn't get a damn thing done, either.

Apparently not: http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbe ... mID=157257

Not that they are suddenly a good band because this flyer was fake, heh.

Doesn't even sound like it was fake, necessarily. Just sounds like it either wasn't ever officially band sanctioned, or that it was and now they're embarrassed about it.

Twilight... is my favourite of the "viking period" albums, too. It's the only one that feels unified and strong all the way through (though granted the title track stands above everything else in this phase). True, the tempo is nearly uniform, the songs lack aggression and you might say a certain fire, but the kind of gloomy feeling of the album works really well I think and makes it seem a bit more self-aware. Hammerheart and Blood on Ice are like comic book viking stuff...fine if you like that sort of thing but Twilight simply feels like it has more depth to it.

I can understand a preference for Blood on Ice as it certainly has more up-tempo stuff, more of a positive, proud feeling. It also contains a silly song that sounds exactly like mid-90s Bad Religion and even more Manowar rip-off moments than usual....

Yeaaa, that picture should be changed to something a little more respectable / ridiculous. I don't know why either the one with the beard and hat or where he's chilling on some steps isn't being used. Nothing wrong with either of those and accurately represents him, as far as i'm concerned.

Twilight Of The Gods was a great album, but it's very vexing that the later releases merged a bunch of the tracks for whatever fucktarded reason. Through Blood By Thunder is a great short track, but I have to sit through an hugeass intro when I put the disc on for a spin. I think Hamerheart suffered the same fate too.

I like Hammerheart quite a bit more. Twilight... sounds like more of a coherent album, but the songs on Hammerheart are simply better. Still, both are essential, naturally.

Shores in Flames. That is the main difference.

For that era of Bathory, Shores In Flames is the essential, and finest moment between the two records. It captures the tale he weaves flawlessly - and that damn solo is just sheer brilliance. Having said that though, there are loads of amazing tracks on the two albums, but I for one can't understand preferring Blood On Ice over the epic magnum opus that is Twilight Of The Gods.
