Everything looks and sounds more fascinating when you are sleep deprived. Even nu-Spongebob episodes.

Unrelated:

Quote:
One day I was doing stand up for the USO tour for thousands of US soldiers in Afghanistan! My entire set was jokes stolen from Al Queda and Islamic jihad websites about 9/11 and wicked disses of US soldiers and their taskmasters! Even though there were thousands of soldiers with guns, tanks and total air support, no one dared stop me, boo, criticize my routine or even walk away from the show because they knew I would kick their asses and their advanced weapons couldn't harm my tight bod! They were also scared because I have a reputation for being totally crazy and not giving a fuck about human life in any form like the time in high school when a couple of jocks were were beating up a nerd in the locker room til he puked and I flipped him face up so he'd choke on his own vomit! I later found out that several hundred of the soldiers complained to the guy who books the USO shows but the joke is on them because I wasn't even signed up! I just walked right on stage on my way to the Taliban insurgent meeting where I was giving the keynote presentation that day and happened to be in the area!

I used to feel the same way--actually I still do, save for a couple of songs that have a really great atmosphere (I, the Witchfinder for example). Try listening to them while in an altered state (stoned, sleep deprived, what have you).

You guys actually enjoy listening to heavy fuzzed out stoner riffs when you're sleep deprived? Wouldn't you rather, you know, not play any music and go to sleep?

I think that if you have to listen to music in an altered state in order for it to sound good, that's probably a sign it's not that great on it's own. Not knocking Electric Wizard though, I actually enjoy Dopethrone and We Live a fair amount when I'm in the right mood (which does not involve the leaf btw).

I more or less feel the same way, though I'd probably never listen to EW sober. The hyper fuzz and feedback bullshit is alright when I'm flying high, but otherwise I'd rather listen to Enya.

Electric Wizard manage to sound the way being stoned feels, that's how I've always seen it. Their tone is just so juicy and sensual, but at the same time hazy.

Electric Wizard captured what it feels like to be bloated and headed down the hall of a dungeon, hunting for more cheezefucks and perhaps being stoned off your gourd at the same time, yes.

But, my personal highs tend to feel more like Curtis gotsdam Mayfield so I tend to not listen to the Wiz when I toke....

But they're good.

They ain't metal. Amazing electro/indie. But, no counting for you damn Aussies to have taste :p

Some of the best songwriters walking the planet, though, and I really do recommend anybody to listen. I should know if they're good under substances....I've been drunk/high every night for three weeks now. THE GUILT IS RACKING MY SOUL.

Somebody needs to listen to Portal while on acid and describe the experience. They say you can taste sound while on acid-what would Portal taste like?

I listened to Enslaved's "Ruun" on mushrooms once... It wasn't as fun as I thought it would be.

Also, the best band to listened to stoned is Sleep.

I checked out Future Islands and immediately liked it! I'm sure I mentioned this band before, but I think PhilosophicalFrog may dig this.

Yeah fuck that noise, Bolt Thrower would be better, probably taste like shrapnel and blood.
If I was the acid doing type I'd drop to Melvins Boris or Sunn O)))

I have no experiences with LSD, but with weed, music with lots of dynamics is the best possible. It seems to augment the quiet/loud dynamics in songs, and it sounds so much better when everything isn't strongly compressed. Chilled out music is the best anyhow, but anything with heartfelt melancholy works excellently.

The only Electric Wizard track I like sober is Funeralopolis, for the rest I have to be either high or doing something else like working or be otherwise occupied.

Their last album sucked and there's not a whole lot of attention towards their earlier stuff I suppose. I recently gained an appreciation for their drummer after trying to figure out the drum parts to program them - nothing exceptionally fancy, but it seems like I notice more about what they're doing than I did ten years ago.

Or see them live. I said it back then and I'll say it again: Seeing Wizard at Deathfest this year was incredible, standing out there in the misty rainfall with a thousand other folks, shirt off, leaning against the railing while smoke drifted through the air and everyone swayed inescapably back and forth and those colossal riffs just pounded us like mantras from an alien dimension. I had the riff from "Witchcult Today" running through my head for a week afterwards...

Edit: And of course I love old Forgotten Woods. Curse of Mankind is the best, though that 20-minute song's a little much to take. I agree that their drummer is excellent (though I think two of the guys share/swap drum duties)...just really confident rocky beats with a really cool sound on the kit and nice use of cymbals to accentuate rhythms. Their bassist is also pretty great. Too bad Joyless never really continued the style as heard on those three or so unique songs on Unlimited Hate...

Does anyone have any clue what the Authorization Code for the NWN! forums would be? I'm looking all over the registration page and can't find the phrase. It's beginning to irritate me.

Perhaps you've just missed what it says under "Authorization code", namely "Finish this title (all lowercase): Fallen Angel of", but if you haven't and are still wondering, then... You DO know what forum you're trying to register as a user in, don't you?
