Ding doggy, Shub Niggurath's The Kinglike Celebration is a pretty impressive release. Everything really comes together well on this. Dark riffs with just the right balance of streamlining to complexity, speeding rhythms that create a rush but don't get overbearing, nice eerie keyboard touches, and great vocals that cobweb everything over just right. Production and mixing create a really cohesive palette, too. There's an elusive sense of sfumato to the aesthetic here that really works for me. Grand pictures rendered in subtle, subdued colors. Also does a nice job at conjuring a sweet 'Whisperer in Darkness' vibe, flashing impressions of horrid forms racing in the obscurity of the treeline at dusk... simultaneously maintaining unsettling atmosphere and frenzied speed.

@Frog's tape thing: Will listen and report back!

Excellent! Also, since I received your pm at a very tumultuous time, and then I had to deal with some record issues, I will compile my favorite scotches that won't completely kill your bank.

Usually I don't get angry by this shit but god damn. I used to complain about what other people did but lately it's become apparent that there is no way to do that without really coming off like a giant dick. He's also a giant fucking nerd so that doesn't help.

I'm now in possession of Mixcraft 6. Considering I'm in the process of starting my own project with my own writing yet I'm not good enough at guitar to record, this'll help a lot with getting that off the ground.

The real question is actually: who cares, it's likely going to be awesome either way.

A lot or a little? Sounds to me like more than usual based on description of having moments of extreme heaviness.

Yeah, on last.fm there are now several artists with that name. When I came up with the idea there had only been one that was long defunct. I can come up with a different name but that style sounds so much fun to play live in a crowded basement.

Here's a pretty decent live video of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kk84MtoRKb4

So yeah, primarily growls with an epic sounding clean chorus. Personally I think the song sounds fucking incredible and it's great to hear them exploring some new territory. Napero's right in that it sounds like this might be a branching off of their regular sound of the past four albums. Man... that intro's heavy as balls. 3:45 is so Elegy that it makes my sack tingle.

I'm also willing to bet that's a working title, since Amorphis have never had a Finnish titled song, with the possible exception of Sampo.

An asshole such as Mustaine doesn't deserve to have an animal species named after him. They should've named it after..... I don't know..... Probably King Diamond. Yeah, KD's name would fit a creepy crawler like a glove. I can picture it; "Arachnoterror Kingdiamondensis".

I am always surprised how the new Dragonforce gets such high reviews when a few years ago, everyone was panning Ultra Beatdown...which is clearly a better album than their new one. But ah well.

My brain first read that as "Chocolate Covered Oingo Boingo Club." Label me disappointed when I read it again.

I'm surprised they get high reviews in general.

Probably the people who'd give low-rated reviews can't be arsed to make the effort of writing a piece for the band that they don't think much of?

Oh and at first glance, I thought you said Dragonlord. We need more of that...

I suppose this is the best place to stick this: hot French girl death growls a Sybreed song on France's version of American Idol:

As the article says, the dude at 1:05 rules.

Hey, not bad! Though it should've been a dinosaur or something just as terrifying instead of a jawed worm :-P

Also, Napero deserves some kind of award for the way he closed that ridiculous thread about the "toughest bands in metal". Best finisher of his since that old Nile thread.

So can anyone from France tell me about some punk bands from France? I mean my knowledge of punk is slightly vast but I can't think of a single punk band from France except for Sylvester Stalline. My friend and I were talking about French bands and we could only think about black metal bands and Gorod.

Yeah, heard it on the news about 30 min ago.... it's fucking horrible. I guess the whole gun legislation thing is going to flare up again. Hopefully with some real progress this time.

I doubt it, think of all the shootings that happened in just the last few years with almost no progress to show for it. Messed up kids will keep getting their hands on weapons and killing a lot of people. The events will be pondered and the people will be mourned for a few weeks, then it will die down like it has many times before. Everything will be blamed, from music, to movies and videogames, and America will go back to discussing what truly matters: contraception and gay marriage. God bless them.

Its a sad day indeed. It galls me that these types of people even exist, but they have throughout history, and more will follow suit to be sure. But taking away their guns will only make them use something else to hurt, and kill. These heinous people will always exist sadly.
