There isn't actually anything sane about modern humans eating meat, but it's these:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinkel
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kochwurst
Possibly bacon as well.
Smoked Tofu is dope though, you should try it.

Ground beef seasoning: cumin, Worcestershire, red pepper flakes, paprika, chili powder.

I tried baking filled butternut squash recently, using leftovers for the filling: tofu, applesauce, onion, pear... sounds weird, but the filling actually tasted better than the squash which just ended up watery and meh. Next time I buy squash I'm just gonna mash it or make oven fries or something. Or, like, buy veggies that don't hate me instead. Like beets or parsnips or yam.

Made some stewed chicken with okra about a couple of days ago. I was wondering if this thread was still going because I couldn't find it. Unfortunately, I didn't have my iPod touch so there are no pictures. I also made pepper steak with lo men noodles which was not good at all.

The thread is often on the 4-5 first pages of the Tavern, if you can't find it, browse through the pages and ctrl+f "cooking" or "metantoine" lol. Okra seems cool, not sure if we have some here though...

Made french toast this morning, been a while since I ate some, it's always super good. What are your favorite comfort food, guys?

Comfort food? Pasta, I guess, but if that's a lame answer then boiled potatoes with butter and salt.

Those are both lame answers!

Mine...hmm. My own chili is probably one of them, both because it tastes super good and makes me happy when I eat it, and because it's kind of expensive and time consuming to make, so making it is usually a sign that I have forced myself to do something for myself. Other than that though, maybe my grandfather's chili dogs, my great grandma's banana nut muffins, or some other family classic recipes. Biscuits and gravy for breakfast, for sure.

My mom's eggs that she's often cooking on Sundays are quite comforting. I'm not good at making sunny side ups but she is so it's always fun when she cooks 'em.

Ramen. Very little makes me as comfortable as eating ramen. and mac and cheese. My grandma's mac and cheese is iconic in my childhood.

I'm not vegan! And potatoes boiled with their skin taste really fucking good by themselves (butter and salt just enhance existing flavour), but perhaps all your potatoes just suck overseas so you have to literally toss them in boiling fat and smother them with gravy or ketchup to make them taste like something (that something being shame).

grilled cheese and tomato soup. doesn't matter if it's cheap white American process cheese and Campbell's, or a three cheese gourmet sammy and homemade bisque. just makes me feel really good.

Oh yeah, grilled cheese and mac n' cheese are definitely in my top 10 comfort food, so versatile and fun to eat/cook.

Just made spicy tuna wraps, very easy to do and tasty as fuck. Small wheat tortillas with tuna, Sriracha, green & red onions, light mayo, salt and peper and lettuce. Since my mom is away on a trip, I have a tendency to eat lightly for supper, my parents are more old school for this meal, meat, potatoes etc

For comfort foods, I'd definitely go with Japanese curry.

Mmmm... French toast is good. Comfort food? For me it's a big fry up of bacon & eggs. With mushrooms, hash browns, spinach, tomato and chorizo etc... pulled me out of many a nasty hangover.

Tonight it's roasted (fresh) sage sprinkled smashed potatoes, blanched asparagus and carrots with griddle fried lamb loin strips. Yum.

Comfort food eh? There is a Vietnamese place I’ve been eating for 20 years now that has the best spring rolls and grilled pork on rice vermicelli ever. Happiness in a bowl.

Other than that a lot of the Hungarian dishes I learned to cook from my mother. Goulash, stuffed peppers, chicken paprikash, cabbage soup, green bean soup. Simple, hearty peasant food.

Would any of those include a borscht recipe? Been looking to try making it sometime soon.

Unfortunately not! I only came to appreciate beets in the last few years so I missed out on borscht. I should remedy that.

Thanks man, that's a great compliment!

With my best friend for a couple of days, we made fried panko shrimp. The first batch was fried in canola oil on the stove and the 2nd bigger one was cooked in the oven. The oven method is both healthier and tastier, the shrimps were much more crunchy. Serve with Sriracha, of course. Here's some pics:

Those oven shrimps look awesome.

Something else: What's up with mac and cheese? Like, as a thing. That shit is disgusting, but just about all Americans I've met and talked to about food love it as a comfort food, just like a few people have mentioned it here. Unhealthy stuff I get, stuffing your face with fast food burgers I get, American food culture "as something else" I get, but goddamn I don't get mac and cheese.

I didn't even know one can do that with shrimp.

I cook fairly basic stuff. You know, pasta, rice and grilling meat and fish. Not even gonna mention frozen pizza/lasagna in the oven since that doesn't count as cooking.

Paprika is a top-tier spice.

You guys should gtfo of my cooking thread! CoW, we're talking about "cooking", Kraft Dinner and the likes aren't cooking!

I'm doing an internship for 9 weeks so I'm cooking a lot of stuff that I can bring as lunches. I've made a big ass bunch of beef cheeseburger macaroni wednesday and I ate that for dinner and supper yesterday (long day at school). Based on that recipe: http://www.budgetbytes.com/2012/05/chil ... eef-n-mac/

It's glorious. I did a spicier version with a lot of Sriracha.

Of course I am not talking about frozen food or whatever, I'm saying that -the dish- mac and cheese, homecooked and all, is gross as hell, least the ways I've tried it when Americans have cooked it for me (my family used to be a host family to American students studying in Copenhagen, so I've tried it a few times sadly, often it was all they knew how to cook). The recipe you linked to doesn't seem much better to me, but at least it has some onions and shit in it, I consider this kind of mince meat sauce with pasta the absolute lowest thing that constitutes cooking.

Mac and cheese is hella pedestrian anyway compared to the glory of blue cheese cream sauce on either tagliatelle, tortiglioni or farfalle.

(Even when the latter is ruined by addition of unnecessary meat!)
