I liked the Robin Hood episode, it was silly and fun!

Just finished the first season of Hannibal and probably gonna start season 2 right away! Marvelous show and if your answer to "who is the best actor on TV right now?" is not Mads Mikkelsen, well that's a wrong answer or a lie. And of course, the rest of the cast is impressive too! I'm devouring the series! :oh shit:

What? Mads Mikkelsen's range on Hannibal is like an inch wide. Come on now. He's a good actor but Hannibal is like the worst example of his talents I've seen.

^ In fairness, he's playing a psychopath/sociopath. It would be pretty bizarre if this unfeeling, unempathetic serial killer had dramatic emotions. You could argue that it's just the fact that he's playing Hannibal, but I'm watching the show for Mads' character and no one else on there.

Right. That's why it's a terrible example.

I'm not so sure. He does nothing dramatic, yet myself and many others watch the show just for him. It may be the allure of Hannibal's character, but Mads' character is hardly a Hopkins knockoff. Even in Casino Royale, he struck me as cold, and I believe he's really in his element with Hannibal which shows in how well he carries the show.

He's got the right face for it, that's all. Like I said, he's a good actor, but it's not an impressive performance. Everything superficial and contextual about the character is more interesting than his actual acting work. It's a power of suggestion thing.

No it wasn't, it was such horrible crap that even our fanatic Whovian (the firstborn daughter) considered it a depressing and embarrassing piece of poop.

The scripts had better improve, lest the series goes down the drain. We are watching the Impossible Astronaut story line on DVD at the same time, and the difference is simply too much to understand. And all this with Capaldi's undeniable charisma... How do they come up with this shit?

Just recently finished watching the first season of Halt and Catch Fire. It was pretty good, I enjoyed it a lot despite the rather weak season finale. Will definitely be following it in the future. Having grown up with '80s home computers, it's cool getting an imaginary look into what that industry might have been like from the inside. Directing/writing/acting/production are all quite good. It's got an awesome opening, as well. Would definitely recommend to anyone who's looking for an interesting new show but doesn't really know what they want, haha.

New South Park teaser

Needless to say whatever hopes I had for the new season are now low.

Watched season 1 of The Blacklist on Netflix. Started out okay, got better, then went off the tracks in a hurry about halfway through the season.

Definitely the type of show that only should have lasted around one season/12-20 episodes, instead of whatever it is they're doing.

Because you're a Redskins fan? I can't see how that trailer could possibly lower your hopes.

Dis-regrading that I don't follow American sport and miss the targeted audience, because it's the same painfully blunt commentary as the previous season. It's not witty or inventive in it's output anymore and it's especially lazy writing, it's a far stretch from Night of the Living Homeless.

I liked the first season but you're right that it had useless episodes, well most series with 22 episodes season have some. Season 2 starts tonight, I'll continue since James Spader fucking rocks.

I had my doubts about Gotham but the first episode was pretty damn good. It's a mix of genres that work well together and the acting is decent, Ben McKenzie as James Gordon. If you guys like the Batman universe, watch the show. It's gonna be a 16 episodes season so I think it will pretty tight, the first episode was pretty fast paced overall.

Agents of SHIELD season 2 starts tomorrow, I really liked the 2nd half of s01 so I'll keep watching the show, it will get better and better in my opinion.

Speaking of premiers. Sleepy Hollow Season 2. In all sense I shouldn't be enjoying it. Hell, they use Moorcock's chaos star and use it as an ancient symbol. But it is the same type of silly enjoyment I get from national treasure or those da Vinci code movies.

I've been watching Twin Peaks. It's cool. Pretty strange at times. I mean, it's Lynch.

I wish season 2 of Twin Peaks lived up to season 1's promises.

Almost finished with Lost (just two more episodes plus that mini-episode to go). I've actually enjoyed seasons 5 and 6 more this time around than I think I did back when it first aired, though of course toward the end lots of the plot is riddled with complete bullshit.*

Spoiler: show
* For example, toward the end of season 6, the survivors all plan on leaving via the Ajira Airways plane on Hydra Island, but Locke/The Smoke Monster/The Man In Black discovers that it's rigged with C4, so they opt to take the submarine instead. Even though Locke is completely invincible and can easily kill all of the men guarding the sub himself, they come up with some ridiculous assault plan that involves everyone attacking in waves (including, like, Hurley and Sun and whatnot) with Locke in the final wave. Of course this happens to set up another scenario, but goddamn that was just kind of silly.

The overall plot arch is interesting, though, and the action is tense enough to largely keep me distracted from dumb stuff like that.

I didn't finish Twin Peaks. Season 1 was definitely some surreal, bizarre shit, and season 2 had a few episodes that almost matched that, but I stopped

Spoiler: show
when the murder was solved - just didn't feel like going on after that, because what the fuck?

The pace of Twin Peaks is too slow, I gave it a good 5 or 6 episode go and it comes off as just progressively convoluted and pretentious, I can not for the life of me see why it's so praised apart from a few odd scenes here and there that are unintentionally/intentionally funny. Fire Walk With Me on the other hand is interesting, concise and plays out better with more memorable odd scenes like the one with David Bowie. You could say it's that way because it's meant to be a conclusion but I think it's because David Lynch wasn't uselessly lengthening plot points and knew what he wanted then.

Sleepy Hollow is like a video game. In each episode, there's a quest, with a "puzzle" (easy one, gotta please the 2010's casual gamer crowd), and often a boss at the end. Hell, in the S2 premiere, the knight that showed up at the end looked straight out of Dark Souls. But it's always entertaining, and the dude is hot so... yeah I'll watch :oh shit:

That show has one of the best atmospheres of any other TV show made if you can really immerse yourself in it.

Also; best theme song ever written.

The murderer was revealed abruptly because of pressure from the network to boost ratings. Lynch was basically forced to show his hand on that aspect.

Still love the show in spite of all that.

Vince Vaughn and Colin Farrell for season 2 of True Detective?

RIP TD

Literally the two worst A-list actors in Hollywood right now.

Shame that it's not Vaughn and Owen Wilson, True Wedding Crashers.

I'm literally hooked on... Modern Family right now. It's just a really fucking good series with great, honest writing and good acting. You literally grow with the kids (I'm almost done with the first season but season 6 starts this week I believe) and I like that kind of stuff. I guess that's my gay side but I looooooooooove it.

Ain't no way that True Detective casting decision is going to deter me from watching it. In fact, I could see that being really interesting.

If the first was Blue Velvet and the second was Inland Empire or possibly Wild at Heart, I can see the problem.

Those were definitely Lynch's least interesting movies.

Lost Highway, Mulholland Dr. and yes, Twin Peaks (the series, not the godawful wrap-up movie) are all amazing, though.

Honestly I've never been able to get into his films, but Twin Peaks is great. Far less straight up surreal dream logic anti-narrative whatever, more traditional most of the time.

I need to try again though, it was years ago.

Nothing he's done quite matches Mulholland Dr. for me, frankly.

I own it but have not found the right mood to really get that into it.

Eraserhead is probably my favorite. Elephant Man a close second, and then Lost Highway.

I just finished watching season 8 of trailer park boys and I've got grim hopes for what comes next, it seemed like a lot of the stuff was really forced. Ricky just spouts out weird Rickyisms throughout the whole season for no real reason, and the new characters are pretty cringeworthy. And a baby? A FUCKIN BABY? If anything kills off a good TV comedy quicker than stage 3 lung cancer it's a baby between a semi well known character and an awkwardly tossed in extra like Jacob and Trinity... Anyone remember the last season of King of the Hill? At least the first 3-4 seasons left us with some absurdly great moments.
I think overall my biggest complaint was what in the FUCK happened to Ray? Dude was one of the last pieces of funny holding this series together and he just disappears for no reason.

Alright, television enthusiasts, I'm looking for some recommendations today. I finally have hyper-fast internet, and knowing I've missed out on a ton of television, want to remedy that today.

I'm looking for television series that have aired in the last 1 to 6 years that are in the action, drama, science fiction, cop procedural/drama or psychological horror categories. Below are a few series I've enjoyed.

1. Burn Notice - spy fun with comedy and action.
2. Game Of Thrones - super violence with tons of sex.
3. Terminator - The Sarah Connor Chronicles: great science fiction drama with action and good character moments.
4. Californication - this fills the sex and drama quotient nicely.

Now, here are some series I feel like I would enjoy:

1. Strike Back - maybe this fills the action category?
2. The Killing - enjoyed the first season, and I'm interested in the other ones.
3. Bates Motel - seems pretty dark and crazy.
4. American Horror Story - all of this strikes me as super dark and interesting.
5. Masters Of Sex - drama and sex, maybe?

Watch:
-Funny cop show: Brooklyn Nine-Nine (2nd season starts tonight),
-Drama cop show: Hannibal (2 seasons are out)
-Comedy/drama cop show: Castle (season 7 starts tomorrow)
-FBI drama: The Blacklist (season 2 started last week)
-You could try Helix for sci fi, I only watched the first two episodes but it was good and I need to finish it, the first season is finished
-Orphan Black because it's awesome (2 seasons)
-Black Sails if you like pirates (1 season, I've only watched the pilot but it was great)

You'd love Downton Abbey, FD. It's got some really taut espionage action going on, plus a "who's the real terrorist" angle, and every now and then there's a boob. Season 2 has a crazy sniper vs. sniper scenario that kicks ass.
