They're my favorite band from Japan! Seriously

Funny you mention that, because I finished watching that anime just the other day, was a really good watch I thought.

Can't say that Death Devil were that great though

Almost, but not quite entirely unrelated, has anyone heard the song "Goku" by Soulja Boy? It brings a new level to the stupidity of hip pop. There's another one called "Anime" but I can't find it unfortunately. That one's even worse

So I downloaded Alien 9, Devil May Cry, Wolf's Rain, Zombie Loan, Hellsing, Highschool of the Dead, Noir, Jigoku Soujo, and Beck.
I'm also going to watch Evangelion again since the first time was almost 8 years ago and I don't remember what the hell happened there :P

Anyway I will post my opinions on those soon, well, maybe not that soon...

The DMC anime was a tad mediocre in that nothing is really accomplished. It was fun, but the characters were stale and it sort of felt needless since Dante is overpowered beyond belief. Some episodes are really good like the casino cruise ship one, but otherwise not a whole lot to say about it (and I love the DMC game series).

I also saw it with Eng subs, not Eng dub.

I just finished watching Hellsing, pretty cool actually.
Alucard's character is one of the best vampires I've seen in a while, and the storyline is not that complex but it can be boring at times.

Also, the whole Victoria's point of view, her struggling with being a vampire... I liked it, I don't know about you guys. Next thing will be: Highschool of the Dead :P

Hellsing... cool series! By the way, have you seen Trinity Blood? It's got a similar setting as Hellsing, there's also a series of novels about it (might as well get them as soon as I can before the manga).

However, the protagonist, Abel Nightroad is more of a naive-looking, and even clumsy character, when he's not a Kruznik (a vampire who drinks the blood of other vampires).

I haven't but I will surely do.
So I havent' seen Highschool of the Dead, I'm waiting for my girl

But I watched Alien 9, strange, but it is surely fucked as it looks like it is designed for little kids while it's actually seinen. The main character is a 12 year old girl, that's chosen to deal with aliens. In order to do that she need to put this alien called Borg into her head. Like a symbiotic relationship.

I also watched Zombie Loan, about some weird girl that apparently has the shinigami eyes, so she can see if a person is about to die. Then she meets this dudes, that are supposed to be dead, and it turns out they are some sort of zombies. Not the average zombie, as they made a deal in order to "stay" alive. Pretty cool also.

Maybe tomorrow I'll watch Highschool of the dead, who knows?

So I watched the first 3 (or 4) episodes of Highschool of the Dead, pretty cool actually. I'm gonna watch more as soon as I focus on that...
The story is the same story as in mamny zombie stuff. A few survivors in a whole city full of anarchy and zombies. Hope it gets more interesting than that.

I also watched a few episodes of DMC, haven't played the games but it doesn't seem that mediocre. I kind of liked it actually, monsters + rock + sexy hunter chicks = winner.

I'm mainly into Berserk, more recently. I just dislike the fact that they ended the anime in the worst way and then continued the manga. Ridiculous.

Read the earlier volumes? The anime left out loads and was lacking in many of the areas it did cover.

Edit: Punctuation.

Well, The way I understand Berserk is that it jumps around a lot. It starts off at the beginning of the second arc (I'm not sure?) and then goes through the first and then ends at the second again? It's fucked. I want them to properly assess the situation immediately.

It's not really all that confusing. It starts out with the main character already a middle-aged badass fighting a few baddies for a short arc to establish his character, then jumps all the way back to his birth for a looonnnng flashback (literally like 10 volumes) to detail how he got there. Then we get up where we were, and it continues forward. Basically it only jumps once, then gets back to where it started and continues onward chronologically from there. The pacing actually works very well, because you realize that something really traumatic must have happened to the main character to make him the way he is in the beginning of the series, and you realize the flashback is building up to it, but you don't know what's going to happen.

I didn't say it was confusing for me, personally... if at all really. I was mainly addressing that they ended the anime and continued the manga and I disliked that. And also, as far as the jumping around goes, I was just relaying what the manga readers have mentioned to me about the way the flow of the anime worked in comparison to the manga itself. I can't personally say whether or not their opinions are unfounded, since I haven't read the manga.

From what little I saw of it, Trinity Blood is basically Hellsing meets Trigun. I'll have to download a few more eps.

Last night I finished watching Neon Genesis Evangelion, and that ending was quite mind-boggling to say the least, but I still thought it was good.

I absolutely loved the series(despite some depressing parts), and I hope to watch the movies as soon as I can.

Definitely recommend it to all anime fans out there who haven't watched it yet.

Started and finished Dragon Head a while back, an engaging horror/survival manga with an rather bleak atmosphere. Follows the story of some kids who survive a mostly lethal subway crash in a tunnel and their efforts in trying to survive and escape. Of course that is not the entire scope and the ending wasn't quite what I was expecting, but I enjoyed it enough while reading.

They really jumped shark with the last arc though and deviated from the manga so fucking much it'd be impossible for more seasons without a reboot. Seriously the manga gets way better.

I TSarted watching the first episode of desert pubk the other day, but it was kind of boring. Can anyone tell me if the rest of the series is worth watching?

Well, you're barking up the wrong tree for the post-apocalyptic desert atmosphere, the first episode is a pretty good indicator for what the show is like and it doesn't get better...

If you want the setting, I'd suggest trying Now and Then, Here and There and/or Green Legend Ran. Both are more serious then Desert Punk, better, and overall not that comparable to it.

So, HOTD was pretty cool, kind of echhi, but still cool.
I'm wacthing Wolf's Rain, has anyone watched it?

I know Morrigan hates NGE, but it isn't that bad. Of course it is not as deep as many people say, but it is interesting. At least the first half, after that it is boring... Giant bio-robots are cool!!!

I actually rewatched NGE last summer in Japanese and didn't hate it, but the majority of the fanbase and new viewers who latch unto it like it's the Holy Grail will still always crack me up.

Recently finished Baccano! and Paranoia Agent. While I found the former to be the GREATES THING EVER (apparently this is one of those more "obscure" titles in anime, I'm not sure. Either way everyone needs to watch this, perfect in just about every aspect), Paranoia Agent was a bit of a let down. Still good, though I think I need to watch it over again to try and grasp it a bit better.

Recently started Full Metal Panic!, up to episode 8 so far. It's pretty entertaining. Also Black Lagoon OVA 3, anyone? Did it kick ass or did it KICK ASS??? Roberta suddenly got hot. :l

I found it very powerful, like the latest Linkin Park album. Very intricately woven.

Anyhow, I had re-watched Votoms recently, and that ending is still quite impressive. When you think about it, it changes how one looks at everything preceding it, and conversely this makes the ending itself more powerful. There's also a lovely pun on deux ex machina. I had also tried out 'Grave of the Fireflies', and it seems like a rather inferior version of Ray's 'Pather Panchali'.

I love the dabs of Nietzsche influences in later Votoms.

By the way, have you seen the sequel OVA Shining Heresy? It was finally subbed last year. It was amazing stuff, but be prepared to be depressed. And they've been releasing new Votoms stuff lately, last year was Phantom Arc which picks up right after Shining Heresy, and was amazing as well (there's also a bunch of other one shot OVA's, Pailsen Files, the spinoff with Mellowlink, it's all pretty good).

Ryosuke Takahashi is my favorite creator/director in terms of mecha, especially during the 80's. You should definitely check out Dougram if you haven't, I followed the lone ONE fansubber for it during the last two years, the guy subbed the entire 75 episodes himself and it's a very dialogue technical heavy show, almost the LOGH of mecha I'd say. An impressive feat and he seems intent on subbing Panzer World Galient, another Ryosuke show from the 80's. I've heard Dougram is responsible for basically spawning the Battletech franchise*. It's all up on BakaBT (well look up "Dagram"), it was Ryosuke's big debut for Sunrise before he went unto do Votoms, Galient, and Layzner... highly recommended. It's all guerrilla/civil war and the attention to detail with tactics, political intrigue, etc, is insane. The show is nothing but a gray line. And, it has one of the best villains I've ever seen in a long time, motherfucking Lecoque.
Image

Ozzy if you're reading this, I could see you enjoying this series as well. Votoms might be my #2 under LOGH... but, mecha/Ryosuke comparison wise Dougram gives Votoms a run for its money, though they are quite different (Dougram has a much bigger cast and is far more down to Earth without the fantasy, among other things).

I'm not big on anime... I've seen more than enough though. There are some movies and TV shows I've liked.

Movies: Princess Mononoke (I used to really like Ghost in the Shell and Akira, but I find they haven't held up very well)

TV: Trigun (Vash is one of the best protagonists in any TV or movie, in my opinion) - I really liked Dragonball Z as a teen, but there's no way I could commit the time to watch it again and see if I'd still enjoy it

Anyone ever read the Uzumaki manga? Exploring some less known horror titles, I picked it up and frankly its some fucked up shit. The first two chapters have managed to weird me out enough that I don't know if I want to continue, despite looking well done. Though, I bet some of you here should enjoy it.

My favourite definitely has to be Death Note, the whole "vigilante" story has got to be one of the best.

I mean the amount of people I've seen destroying other peoples lives (which might even seem trivial by some), just pisses me off and that Anime satisfied my lust for revenge to an extent. Apart from the ending which I despise this was an exceptional series that I adore.

Apart from the story, the plot was intense filled with moments where L almost found out about Light and he kept on covering his tracks. The closest to this kind of suspense that I've seen is probably the first season of Dexter, which had a similar story to an extent.

Apart from that I love Berserk, that is the most Epic adventure story I've seen on screen.

Gungrave was very good, but lacked the oomph that Berserk had at the very end.

Others I've seen that were pretty good are Elfenlied, Vampire Knight, Trigun.

Anime that I didn't care for very much: Black Blood Brothers, Technolyze.

I'm watching Bleach, as a petition from my girlfriend. It's kind of boring at times, but it is also fun at others.

The only problem I had with this thing it that it takes forever to get into the real action. I'm on chapter 131 and as far as I'm concerned, there are 309 chapters so... And the aciton isn't over yet! And it is the same thing going on here and there!

I'm not saying is bad, but things could happen faster. The real problem are the openings and endings, they fucking suck...

Word saw Death Note and that was cool. At the moment I'm revisiting my Baki the Grappler series (own it).

When I'm in the clear and have literally nothing else to watch, then I'll try Fang of the Sun Dougram and Armored Trooper Votoms. Repeat, I'll see those when I'm completely out of options.

Gundam Wing has been the only anime I've seen thus far that I actually thought was really well done. I don't watch very much anime though, so. I'm sure there are some other really great series out there.

I can watch and enjoy Dragon Ball Z, Pokemon, and Yu Yu Hakusho, but it's mostly out of childhood nostalgia.

Haha that sounds like Dragon Ball Z. Just fighting for like 20 episodes, but nothing happens. Then 20 episodes preparing for a fight. Then they edited out the filler and called it DBZ Kai. Chopped up the dialogue and it is horrible to watch.

I'm just gonna jump in here because TLDR. Suffice to say I like it bloody and/or intelligent.

Berserk, Ninja Scroll, Jin-Roh, Hellsing in all its supreme Cthulhu horror, Ghost in the Shell...I rarely make exceptions for the calm stuff but I was sufficiently mind-fucked (granted I was 16 at the time) by the concepts thrown at me in Serial Experiments Lain. Bebop was one of the first I watched and it's what got me into jazz music. The OST is magnificent IMHO.

Samurai X :o

I think many'd be really surprised at just how in depth the series is. Every episode (or just about) takes from literal quantum mechanical and relativistic theories and then just makes a psychological hyper-violent love child with the two of them while playing to the Kabbalist (with some "hive-mind" type theories) model for the existence of the consciousness and soul. You're right though. Fan boys are..odd...I don't mind cute Japanese women in the tight get-ups though.

Then they edited out the filler and called it DBZ Kai. Chopped up the dialogue and it is horrible to watch.

I really liked the direction they took with Kai. I agree the dialogue was relatively fucked up but I haven't seen it extensively enough to make a solid judgement. DBZ was literally littered with hours of "filler" because it was catching up to the manga and then waiting for new issues to come out during the entire series or so I've heard...

They need to make a live action DB that isn't...bad...I see the anime and think Ong-Bak martial arts with bullet-time, "I Am the 4th/The Sorcerer's Apprentice" graphics for the ki shit and Lord of the Rings plot development and dialogue...And then I watch about 3 minutes of Evolution and die a little inside. How the hair? I don't know but if Hollywood can make Beast and The Incredible Hulk I'm sure they'd know how to do Goku's hair.

[Edit]

Oh, and I thought Zoids: Chaotic Century was awesome. Fuck Transformers.

What's some anime with great intrigue? Something like Death Note or Code Geass.

I think the problem with the dialogue in Kai, is that they had the voice actors come in and record new dialogue and mixed it with the old dialogue. It just didn't flow really well. It was a cool idea though.

I saw DB Evolution, and it was awful. I knew it was going to be a bad movie, but that it would at least be entertaining.

I totally forgot about Zoids. I used to watch that in the mornings before school. Pretty sweet show.

Yay, fuck 'em! Zoids were pretty cool until Guardian Force... Then they kind of lost it.

Well, actually, I'd say few things are worse than japanese Transformers. Weird, coming from a place that gave us things like Macross, Gundam, Ideon, Evangelion. etc. However, they screwed up with every Transformers anime. I thought it was only the newer stuff, but I recently re-watched the Headmasters/Powermasters sagas, and they suck just as badly.

Then again, few things are above the american Transformers series.
