Album is titled "...Like Clockwork".

I know you fans are out there. I'm one myself, and this album is long, long overdue. Seriously 6 years for a band like this is insane. I remember seeing them in 2008 on their Era Vulgaris tour here in Seattle and (venue aside) their performance ruled.

Now I'm hearing the samples for this. You have to go to the website and constantly refresh the page. It'll play very short samples from the album, some of which don't even have actual music to it.

What little music you can make it sounds sludgey at times and post-rock in others. One bit even reminded me of Cult of Luna. It'll probably be more of the same development, though.

EDIT: UPDATED ARTWORK

I think the album art is awful but can't wait to hear that nonetheless. A new Them Crooked Vultures will come out sooner than later too.

What a shitty artwork. At least the Alice in Chains artwork has the hidden surprise element. Which is quite awesome btw. Nonetheless I'm looking forward to it.

Artwork has never been QOTSA's strong suit, always restrictive and minimalist, so no reaction to the cover.

Not too thrilled about the cover art(if that is actually the cover art) but I've enjoyed all of their albums so I'm excited about this one. I only saw them live once a couple years ago when they were promoting the re-release of their self-titled album. It was a killer show, they played every track from that album plus some rarer songs like "The Bronze" and "These Aren't the Droids You're Looking For".

Apparently Mark is back with his vocals.

Trent Reznor has a guest spot too.

^I hope Lanegan does some lead vocals this time around. On Era Vulgaris all he did was some subtle harmony vocals on "River in the Road". I read Nick Oliveri is contributing to the album too, I wonder if only on bass or vocals as well.

Yeah, I think Lanegan won't just be doing backup, and I seem to remember that Nick is doing lead vocals on one track.

Yup, pretty lame artwork. But whatever, Era Vulgaris was the only art work I actually thought was cool. The snippets sound cool, and I agree in places they do sound vaguely like CoL. Judging by the line up and the guest spots, this album will be pretty awesome.

To be fair he was pretty great back in the day. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. <3 His voice has kind of gone to shit though so I am not necessarily too excited by his inclusion. Reznor, Oliveri, and Lanegan, more so.

I am a part of the (very small) minority that didn't like Rated R or SFTD, and loved the s/t and the last two. I have been a major Homme fan and the inclusion of Oliveri, Grohl, and all these guests has me wary. On the other hand, the whole lawsuit thing with Kyuss gave me a different perspective on Homme and my brain doesn't know what to think about this lot. I just hope it's very trance-like and hypnotic with lots of stuff I can jam to.

This makes me very happy, in addition to the news of a new QOTSA album, especially with Mark Lanegan on vocals.

That was pretty cool, kind of sounded like a mix of their different sounds over the years. Queens put on a great show, when I saw 'em it was amazing, one of the best shows I've ever attended actually.

I find that the recording hurt it quite a bit. I'm sure it felt much more powerful in person though, and I'm hoping the recording has a lot more bass in it. But overall, I'm glad to see that they picked up where they left off. The interesting choice of melody over these chord changes is -as usual- perplexing but satisfying.

I'm a dormant QOTSA fan. I had forgotten about them tbh. But seriously though, those new tracks sound killer. I'm looking forward to the new record.

Do you always compare everything to AiC? I noticed something similar in another thread :/

Really digging this new song. Dave's drumming is awesome, as should be expected.

Well turns out that album cover art was just a teaser for the real thing. I'm liking the actual artwork, it suits them.

I think my comparisons are very relevant unlike some comparisons I've came across here on the movie thread and elsewhere. Let me explain my comparison though:
Firstly, AiC and QOTSA are kind of similar (Only difference is that AiC are one of the influences of QOTSA) and about to release new albums.
Similarly, The one you saw on the Black Sabbath - 13 thread, Cantrell is hugely inspired by Iommi, thus I've compared their recent body of works.

About the new song, it sounds like Superunknown era Soundgarden to me though not quite interesting.

That sounds really good. Unfortunately if youtube is an indicator of anything, people probably won't appreciate Josh's artistic maturation, but I'm hearing some quality stuff come out of here so far.

Sweet, really like the animation. Doubt this will be a standout track of the album, but still really cool. Dig the atmosphere.

I came here to post the video. I must say the animation was quite well done. The song doesn't seem too strong like an anchoring track for the album but it's not bad either. I expect good things to only come.

Just listened to the first track "Keep Your Eyes Peeled". Really liked what I heard. I think I'll light one up and listen to the rest of this album now.

Just started listening to this, and I much prefer the second track than the opener. Liked "If I Had A Tail" more than both. Hmm, album is more mellow than I expected.

Yeah the second song definitely beats the opener, it's opening portion is about the most smile inducing thing they've done since Leg of Lamb. The album is pretty soft, but I do enjoy it. Smooth Sailing sounds like a Black Keys song.

I just listened to the album, and I dunno, it was cool but I know they're capable of so much more. I'll have to give it more of a chance to sink in, but it definitely seems like this is their weakest album so far (which doesn't mean it's horrible, I love all their other albums). A lot of it kind of reminds me of the softer stuff on Era Vulgaris. Still, good stuff that I'll be listening more to.

edit - I suck at grammar

Few tracks in, but it definitely feels slower and cleaner than previous efforts. Kinda makes it moodier, and I'm digging it, but I could see a lot of people not liking it. I don't agree with the opening track being weak at all though.

Edit: yeah, the rest of the albums seems to follow this trend. Only complaint is this is compressed way too much, sucks all the life out of it. No clipping or anything, just not enough dynamics. Feels like a rock album with the production of some dumb bassy dance hook.

I liked the album but it is their worst. Even though it's consistent and there's no bad tracks, it's not heavy at all, it feels a bit too polished and dancey. It's definitely a disappointment in my opinion and like dystopia said, they're capable of so much more. Them Crooked Vultures' album has everything this album has and it's much much better.
