oh hey. :) SO .. I'm not a mod, I'm just here to say hi and welcome. Be sure to have a gander at the site rules, etc., since you were elsewhere banned for a blunder. See you round the musician's sub-forum. You've probably checked out rec central by now, but the doom/etc. help thread is there to be culled from.

Hey everyone, looking forward to meet you all. I'm Anthony, a 19 years old canadian who lives in the province of Québec. I've been listening to metal since the age of 14 and since this time my taste is music is constantly growing and evolving. I consider myself openminded and I like to discuss variety of styles, I really don't judge a book by it's cover so i'll be pleased to hear anything you could recommend me that will preferably suit my current mood. I'm actually in a death metal mood so it's why i've written my first review on the newest Psycroptic album, The Inherited Repression, which is my first contribution on this website. I am passionate about writing and being able to criticize every genre of music in the future. As well as I need to improve my level of English, participating on these forums is the best thing I can do!

I've been lurking the archives for the past years, gathering alot of pertinent information and I must say that I have alot of respect torwards the moderators/administrators for providing us this great website. Not only the mods, but thank you everybody for making this a successful and revelant center of sharing and knowledge, accessible/free to the whole internet community. I'm sure that I will learn many things and keep expanding my taste by discussing with you guys. Peace!

Hi, my name is Jorad and I've not formally introduced myself despite being a member here for just under a year now. I've been lurking since late 2011 or so; a friend of mine recommended this site when she was helping me get into metal as a whole.

I play bass and do vocals mainly, also technically can work with guitar and keys. I am working on a musical project of my own but am still trying to figure out how to write, I guess. Ensiferum, Amon Amarth, Amorphis and Death are my biggest influences. I would like to start doing reviews, as well, when I find the time.

I am 17 years old, from southern Maryland, Christian, Anarchist, soon to graduate high school (homeschool). I have Aspergers Syndrome and the general attitude around here makes it easy to function, so I want to thank you all for that and for the chance to be a part of the metal community at large.

So you're from Waldorf? Every person I've met from a non-Waldorf part of southern Maryland turned out to be a cow upon closer inspection.

I am from Waldorf, yes. I was born in the Miami area but we moved up here when I was very little. Most of the farm animals I've seen around are horses, though.
Haha, Jorad is not my birth name, but I have chosen it and will be using it as a stage name and perhaps legally changing to it. We shall see. Still a neat coincidence.

I've already hopped in some conversations, so I might as well let ya'll know about me.

From Central Texas. Got into metal through my dad, who introduced me to early Heavy metal, and NWOBHM. From there, I took it to my own. My first divergence from traditional metal was a Nightwish CD. From there, I jumped into Amon Amarth, and it just somewhat grew from there. For a time, I listened to the most brutal and hard stuff I could find, but I've fallen out of that, with my focus now on:
-Traditional/Heavy Metal, including new stuff
-Doom/Stoner/Small amounts of sludge, more of a focus on the 'faster' stuff
-Thrash. New stuff when I can get it.
-A bit of melodeath, but by no means a big favorite of mine
-Non-pagan folk, again, when I can get it
-Some symphonic, but not a big focus for me, I get tired of female operatic vocals too quick to be a huge fan

I'll also admit my dirty little secret: I like hair metal. I know I shouldn't, but I can't help it, damn it all.

Necroticism is from Quebec too, and I go to school there for most of the year. Can't speak French to save my life, though. I'm sure there's some other people too.

Edit - oh and the creators of the site of course.

Well, this is certainly not something I have seen often. I suppose your parents or one parent speaks English as their native language? That is, given the level of English teaching in there (and where it is focused in the compulsory education field). The reason this interests me is - of course - because the last time I went to Japan, I did some 家庭教師 -work (you guessed it, teaching English) and I certainly have never come across young people who are fully fluent in English and born to Japanese parents. (Of course there are professionals who have studied a lot and are thus fluent, but apart from that). If you are such a person, impressive... :P

Apart from that, some good stuff in your list too. It goes without a saying that people would love bands like Anthem, but I personally also love some bands that you thought might be not liked around here, or their type. Say, D'espairsRay in my case for instance; absolutely my favourite from the 00s, such a shame they had to disband. (Though the modern rock -field is very hit and miss, most bands being boring nu-metal in disguise. There are gems of course).

Welcome anyway!

Hi guys, I'm new but kinda not. I wrote a review for Autopsy's Macabre Eternal last year and chose the name based on that and kinda left the site for some reason, came back and checked I edited my review and never resubmitted it so I did that and wrote a few more reviews. Still learning but I've only been using this site daily since like a week ago and I'm enjoying it, I really like reviewing and I hope some people like to read my reviews. My name is David, I'm Irish and I really love death metal and thrash metal.

Hey. I've used the site a bit in the past, but never really stopped to take a look. Turns out you've got a lot of metalheads, and this looked like the place to be.

Facts about me in no particular order:
I'm 19 years old.
I study computer science in Rochester, NY.
I mostly listen to classic metal, thrash, and power, but I've been getting into a little bit of doom lately.
I play guitar, although I fuck around and improvise more than anything.
I play go - an ancient Chinese strategy game. Still haven't met another metalhead who plays, though.

Some of my favorite bands: Maiden, Priest, Overkill, Kreator, Helloween

Want to know anything else? Just hit me up. Always up for meeting new people.

Thank you for reply!
I live in Osaka. do you live in Kyoto, don't you? It isn't so far. ^^
(BTW, there is the specialist shop for metal, S.A. Music in Osaka,Nihonbashi. Do you know??)

...and, I usually get the album as CD.
So I don't know Download Sites. Sorry.

So yeah, I think we should stick to English in the official parts for the most part as to not cause confusion or irritation for the others. :P Welcome again anyway guys.

That's cool! I also play Igo (or Baduk, Go, or whatever you wanna call it), but I am not too good yet.. I'm around 3-4 kyuu level at the moment, but I've been getting into it lately. (Along with Shougi, whilst lessening the amounts I've put into Mahjong - a game I've been crazy about for a while and technically on a whole another level compared to these other games I'm getting into more lately  )

Nice! I'm only around 12kyu, but with the summer I'm going to have more time to play and study, so my goal is to reach single digits by the end of August. Do you play on KGS?

Hey, I'm Rob.

I'm a 32-year old extreme metal/horror fan. I don't smoke, but drink like a madman. I also exercise regularly and fool around on bass guitar when the mood strikes. I've known about this site for a couple of years now and used it to read others opinions on bands/albums that I enjoy (and to find new ones), but decided recently to sign up and check out the forums.

Some of my top bands include:

Coroner
Pestilence
Rush
Tankard
Overkill (1985-1989 era)
King Diamond
Suffocation
Testament
Vektor (A young band, but really impressive)
Slayer (1983-1988 era)
Iron Maiden
Immolation
Dark Angel

It is endless and some of my favorite albums are not included and connected to the bands above (ie. Morbid Angel "Altars of Madness" and Exodus "Bonded By Blood").
Well, my old ass is going to bed. Nice to meet you all.

Hey all, glad to be here. Been listening to metal for about 10 years, but I took a break for about 2 years while focusing on some other stuff in life. Now I'm looking to get back into metal, find some new stuff to listen to, see some shows, maybe meet some cool people. I like beer, body mods, sci-fi, and impersonating Danzig for the amusement of my pals.

Into black metal, folk metal, some death, also getting into crust punk. Definitely looking for some new stuff so I'll probably be in the Recommendation thread a lot! :)

Uh, i guess i never introduced myself, so hi.
Im mainly into death metal, mostly the brutal kind, but i like various genres, some doom, some thrash, etc. I probably dont hate any "true" metal genre (As from ones accepted to this site), but i despise djent. Deathcore is okay though. My favorite band is Lord Worm era Cryptopsy and Carcass (Even Swansong). I play guitar and im at level of playing simpler Cryptopsy songs, so thats something. Need to practice being on time more, though, and being consistent. Cheers.

Hello,

My name is Tim. I'm 32, and I teach high school math. I play drums in a US Folk-Black Metal band that just got signed to a small Finish label, so I'll be submitting it a little later when things are official.

I listen mostly to black metal, but I do delve into other genres. I look forward to discussing metal on the forum :)

I like both early and later. Its pretty different from each other, but there are still stylistic similarities on all of their albums.

What's up, dudes? I'm Stoned Wizard. I joined this site because I love me some heavy metal.
