Doing a diploma in photography now, my earlier comments on raw files and ISO look totally idiotic. Oh well, you live you learn

Suechtler, that last one...to die for. I've been longing to have some weeks off of any kind of obligations just to visit places like these, put up my tent and spend real quality life time there. Were your pictures taken in the Alps by any chance?

Yeah, it's definitely amazing to just get out of the city and go on a nice, long 2-day hike. And yes, these are taken in the Niedere Tauern in the Alps in Austria.

Weird, they work now. Not sure what happened. When I tried to open one of the broken pics in a new tab earlier, it gave me something like "this image cannot load because it contains errors". Oh well!

Haha, you'd definitely see quite a few humans there as that place is really popular with hikers during the summer months. It's Gollinghütte in the Niedere Tauern in Austria (http://www.preintaler.at/agp/index.php/ ... linghuette).

Really loving those bottom two! I guess the Shanghai photos weren't super appropriate for this thread, but next week I'll post up some Hangzhou photos which might be a little more nature-y and less focused on architecture.

Your pictures have me re-thinking my own photography. That second to last one especially looks really good with those muted colors. Really fits the landscape and reminds me of an old spaghetti western or something. I spend a lot more time in forests than in places like that, and I've definitely developed a tendency to aim for rich color and sharp contrast in my photos, but sometimes I feel like I've settled into too much of a routine with my photography that doesn't lend enough individual character to the places I photograph.

Anyway, Hangzhou photos almost done, so I'll post some of those soon!

I sometimes have to lower the exposure settings for some of the really sunlit ones, so the sky doesn't "Wash out" so to speak. I think that second to last one ("The citadel") was taken around 6:30 or 7 in the evening.

I just had to re-do one of the links above as the top one didn't work for some reason.

I love the dense forests too, and enjoy looking at that kind of scenery. I try and make it out the coast at least once a year to hike in the redwoods. For instance over Christmas, I was in this place called Felton, California, where you can hike to these old moss covered ruins that used to be some kind of cement furnace kilns or something. I might post pictures of that eventually. But I also like to take advantage of the natural beauty of the high desert country of eastern Oregon/southwestern Idaho where those were taken.

Yeah, my instinct would have been to tweak my camera until I could get an image as close to, say, this (with as little post-processing as possible):

Image

I'm not really sure that's better, though. Very much like the loudness war in music, I think.
