Haha. Good example, but even the uglified Charlize Theron in Monster (from the stills I've seen, haven't watched the movie) wouldn't be homely enough to be Brienne, I think... besides she'd be too expensive. :P

A couple things... One, regarding Cersei's "I used to love you, Robert", I just assume she's lying/playing politics. In that sense, it's very much in character, so I don't think one needs to accept that this is a different Cersei. Two, I think that, though I may have pictured Tyrion being a tad uglier in my imagination, he's probably considered hideous by the general population anyway, on account of being a dwarf.

I can't take all this waiting around for new episodes. This show is too awesome.

Guess I need to cement the books on my to-read list.

If Cersei was playing Robert, she was doing a damn good job of it. Not knowing her character or anything, I thought she was telling the truth, although I did realize her family is a bit insidious and she could be lying.

If a Lannister is talking it is safe to assume they are lying. Did anyone else notice how a new city (The Eyrie?) was added to the opening sequence? By the time the show progresses a ways they're gonna have several new cities to add to it, I think that's pretty cool.

The first episode also had Pentos, and that has been replaced by Vaes Dothrak in subsequent episodes.

Jane Espensen is co-writing tonight's episode. Should be interesting.

This last episode made him look a bit more empathetic, I guess

Well he certainly had no right going about how he did with nobody behind him, it was inevitable that his arrogance would catch up to him. I could relate to his character though, mainly on the account of myself being a cunt of Viserys' caliber.

Yes that was awesome, I liked Mord too. As good as the whole show is I usually find myself looking forward to the Dothraki scenes, I think they're more fun and less of a history lesson, just a trend that I've noticed. I went ahead and atched the HBOgo episode early so if you didn't don't read the rest.

Spoiler: show
I thought Ser Barristan was Tywin Lannister up until this episode, don't I feel stupid! I think it's because other than Jaime the Kingsguard have not been shown too much but still I recognize the guy playing Tywin from Alien 3 and he's awesome. I really enjoyed the first scene with him and Jaime, it was very revealing and reminded me that by the point the books have reached Jaime might be my favorite character. It's difficult watching the eddard situation play out, it's like you want to tell him what's gonna happen but you can't. I also remember now how unsympathetic Sansa is at this point in the story, what a little bitch. I can;t believe how much more of a puss Renly comes off in the show still, I don;t think it's just the gay scene either he really talks like a bitch and that's not how I imagined him at all.

"A Lannister always pays his debts" *coin purse throw* . . . favorite part! Mord reminded me a lot of Ned from The Venture Brothers ("Ned like little man...") made me laugh

The wildings are cool, but I'm not so sure about that "ooga booga caveman" hair.

Especially while watching this episode, I started feeling the same dread for Ned as I did reading the books - thinking to myself "Just get out of there man! Jump ship! GTFO!"

Arya is getting good at dancing!

Spoiler: show
Loved the symbolism of Tywin skinning the stag. Not so crazy about the brothel scene - the dialogue wasn't relevent enough to account for all the sex. You have to admit, even for HBO that was damn graphic. I wouldn't mind except the only point of the scene (seeing how it is not in the book) is to give a bit of Littlefinger history, which could have been done many different ways.

i think it was well made, i would love to see the face of the people who didn't read the books, maybe they were thinking that Viserys would be an important character in the future of the serie.

i found that Lancel (Robert baratheon squire) is a bit too emo for my taste :)

It was a great episode, but where on earth are the direwolves? Surely there budget is not that low that they can't show us more, oh, I don't know, main characters?

And, Hodor did not say 'Hodor!' when he presented Bran with his custom-made horse seat! Bummer.

I actually thought the brothel scene was really important for when it happened, Littlefinger needed to be foreshadowed as a snake and Ros is going to feature in the future so they want to keep her fresh in viewers' minds. I think the scene could have been half as long, but Littlefinger summed up his character when he said he plans to get ahead by fucking people.

Sorry if I'm blanking here, but what episode was all this in? Somehow none of this sounds familiar.

That's why we were putting the spoiler thing on there, it's episode 7. If you have HBO then the go thing is free, if not talk to your friend with HBO and get their password and username.

I wonder if the spoiler tag has a subtitle option where it would be "Spoiler [insert text here] : show". Luckily there wasn't really much a spoiler of plot points in the episode 7 discussion so far.

Yea, sorry about that - that references ep.7 which was released to people with a special subscription (?) or something - you can find it online however.

I was thinking about putting a "7" or something next to the spoiler alert but didn't - I don't think much was given away though. Will remember that for next time.

Ok, I do agree with this - the importance of him saying so for the audience didn't dawn on me until you mentioned it.

Just saw episode 7:
Spoiler: show
More sexposition. Completely gratuitous, and a waste of precious screen time that could have gone to showing Tyrion and Bronn in the Mountains of the Moon, but noooo, gotta fill the softcore quota, huh? :nono: The Littlefinger backstory wasn't that important and the scene dragged for way too long. What were they thinking?

...Other than that, it was a really awesome episode. I hope non-readers won't be turned off and stop watching at the beginning of the episode because it's really just one stain on an otherwise excellent episode.

"I always wanted to be a wizard."

Episode 8 is written by GRRM himself, and it's called "The Pointy End". I really cannot wait for that one. :nods:

That us men are pigs :P? I'm not gonna lie, that scene was pretty useless but it probably might generate more talk about it at the water cooler or forum. I can't comment if it was completely out of place as I haven' read the books yet but I think they might want to use the sex scenes and gore to "mature" the series as some people have stupid and uninformed preconceptions of fantasy novella. Plus, that prostitute from winter's landing is really hot.

i agree with Morrigan, the serie is spending too much time on Littlefinger, but i'm not complaining about the hot lady (from Winterfell, not Winter's landing :) ). Tywin was really great, can't wait to see the next episode
Spoiler: show
and the capture of Jaime!!!

You guys are really jumping ahead here, I'll only be watching ep 7 on Monday night, as per my weekly Monday night ritual. I'm going to have to avoid this thread until the end of the series, sad...

There's only 3 left and I don't think that any more will be shown in advance it was just a promo for the go service.

New episode was really good and, finally, real action has begun, next episodes are bound to be good and filled with action. :)
Spoiler: show
Anyone annoyed by nudity like me? I think they're pushing too hard for it, it's pointless, if I wanted porn I'd go to pornhub.com or similar. I also disliked how khal Drogo promised to conquer Westeros, he looked like a frustrated teen who wants to get a revenge. And finally we got to see the true Littlefinger, he's such a snake in the books.

Are you kidding me? Khal Drogo's "speech" was amazing, I really got a "shit's going down now!" vibe from it. The ending cliffhanger was exciting, even though I already know what's going to happen hehe

Well in regards to excessive nudity it really doesn't detract from the show for me, really there was lots of sexual goings-on in the books too, maybe the proportion of scenes with nudity and fucking was way smaller in the books as opposed to the show but as has been mentioned above it's HBO and they want viewers too. So yeah I don't think there's been really any "wasted" screen time for nudity's sake as all the scenes have to carry some weight since they only have 1 hour episodes, and I'm not remembering any scenes that seemed to be there for just the tits. I've read lots of complaining about this, (not just on this site) and also about the gore believe it or not. Why would you want this show to be lacking in the gory violence department? That's the whole reason they did it on HBO.

Um. Ros and Theon fucking, then Ros leaving for King's Landing, and Littlefinger's brothel scenes, anyone? None of those scenes were in the books and they were all useless to boot.

Sure, the Theon scene highlights that he's a hostage etc, but they've made that clear several times already (if anything it's a bit too heavy-handed, way to telegraph all of season 2 guys...). And Littlefinger's story didn't need the unnecessarily loud and distracting porn moaning...

It's bullshit that this Ros, a character not in the books, has more screen time than Robb Stark, Maester Aemon, the Hound or the Blackfish (whom they've actually cut from S1 and moved to S2) put together. :nono: Well, at least we should see more of Robb in the next episodes.

To be honest that porno scene from the last episode was unnecessary if you ask me. It really distracts from the main story.

I was thinking that Ros
Spoiler: show
might end up being the chick that Tyrion falls for?

Also I disagree that those scenes are pointless. Telegraphing in television is different than in books, you kind of have to make things more obvious for the audience. The porn moaning, was it that big of a deal? The scene was important for Littlefinger, who is instrumental in bringing about what is unarguably the main event in the plot yet to unfold for the first season. Ros leaving for King's Landing let people see how these events are affecting the common non-royalty people, with her explaining why she's moving. Sure she has more screen time than some other characters but dammit sacrifices have to be made for the sake of time, and really I don't think that the show suffers from her being featured. I think these scenes all contain important information that would be hard to convey otherwise, with tits as a bonus.

The porn moaning was definitely pointless. My brother, mother and father respectively came in to see what the fuck I was watching.

Um, not really. What did the scene bring really? Explaining Littlefinger's backstory with Cat? That has been stated and implied already, and I don't think the people who missed those details will pay more attention when the explanation is offered during the most blatant sex scene yet. Or is the point that Littlefinger does his "I am a bastard, mwahaha" bit? Doesn't that just lessen the shock of what happens later in the episode?

The porn moaning was definitely pointless. My brother, mother and father respectively came in to see what the fuck I was watching.

 Awkward.

"No no, it's not porn, honest! See? There's the guy from The Wire in there!"

Maybe they did it to give an obvious reason for Littlefinger doing what he does later in the episode. The relationship he has with both Cat and Ned hasn't been explored all that deeply, so we get the "I'm a magnificent bastard" scene (with pointless tits) to explain it a bit more and to justify the "screw you, Stark" scene at the end of the episode. I personally think it was not necessary, the bit of backstory we already knew and Littlefinger warning Ned not to trust him were enough, but maybe the scriptwriters/producers/whatever think differently. Hell, I know one guy who was confused at what happened even with the extra brothel scene and asked me what exactly Littlefinger intended to do and why... It was hard to tell him without major spoilers, I should just have told him to read the books.

Yeah that's the point I was trying to make, in t.v. shows many viewers will miss even the obvious plot developments, so events must be spelled out. The shock of Littlefinger's actions is not very shocking if you have little to no conception of who he is. All well, it's just one scene we seem to be disagreeing on fuck it.

The first appearance of Tywin was perhaps the best thing I've seen since Bryan Cranston shaving his head. Don't know exactly how and why it was so good, just perfectly delivered. Yet again, the casting shines in Tywin's case.

I just watched Episode 8 today ("The Pointy End"). I don't really know how to say what I want to say about it but I do get the feeling that the episode gets across the dramatic change in tone that appeared in the books. GRRM did a great job with it. What a dark, bleak, horrifying episode!
