Late 60's/early 70's Italian prog rock band. One of my favourite bands from the era, especially their debut. Anyone other into them?

I had also heard rumours that they are actually newer band (late 80's/early 90'). Any truth to that? I don't believe it, but their Triumphatus Sad sounds way ahead of it's time indeed.

I had posted about them in the Prog Rock thread. I have only heard the debut, amazing album, far ahead of its time, but not quite so far ahead that people should suggest it was from the 80s/90s, this is the first I am hearing of this rumour actually.

Truly agree with you. The rumour is probably there because it was distributed in a small number of copies (around 300) and most of them are probably lost or destroyed or damaged so very few people actually own the original and not the remaster.

I actually prefer their second. Less pipe organ and pretty charming vocals and atmosphere.

Jacula is absolutely great. Pretty ahead of their time in that they were practically playing doom metal back in like '68-'72 or so.

Good band, same goes for their sister project Antonius Rex. They were going to release a new album last year but I think it was pushed back.

Anyway, there's a track on their debut that sounds like Celtic Frost's Rex Irae, right down to the tuning. Very impressive for '69.

Does this sound anything like the Italian group Goblin?

If you're referring to the prog. rock group that did a whole lot of soundtracks and such, Jacula is quite different and on an entirely different level of heaviness. But Goblin is by all means a cool band.
