Are you fucking kidding me?

I saw a commercial for this last night and almost shit myself. One purpose of this drug, according to the ad, is to amplify the effects of the anti-depressant you're already taking. So, for those of you who are taking medication because you're depressed about being broke, here's another drug for you to take to make you less depressed about how much more broke you are after buying Abilify.

I've never heard of anyone being depressed about being broke. It's more likely the other way around. Dentists and lawyers are the most depressed professionals, and the richest.

It's not supposed to treat that kind of depression, but rather clinical depression. But I see what you are getting at. :P

I'm working myself off that shit since it appeared to have little effect (even for 2mg) on me.

I took this stuff when I was in my mid-teens, it didn't work at all. But that was probably because I wasn't really depressed. It was determined later that it was mostly just traits of Asperger's, and I stress the word traits because it isn't an official diagnosis.

Wow. I'd be seriously depressed if I had all of those side effects. You'd probably do better without the medicine

The way it was explained to me is that it acts a mood stabilizer. A lot of anti-depressants will increase the risk of individuals with bipolar disorder to swing into mania, drugs like abilify, lithium etc. act as stabilizers to prevent that from happening. Lithium is actually better as a permanent stablizer, though. As for how its used for people without bipolar disorder, or even if it should be, I don't know.

I love it when people who don't know anything about pharmaceuticals talk about them.

There's a reason you have to go to college for something like 12 years before you can prescribe them, and to even dispense them you need to go to college for 6.

I'm not sure if you were referring to my post that was right above yours or the ad described by the OP in general. If you were referring to my post, I was basing it on information given to me by my doctor, so its not just me sitting here making shit up for hell of it or looking it up on wikipedia or something. If you weren't referring to me feel free to ignore this post.

Abilify? Sounds like an obscure Ukranian black metal band.

I'm pretty sure that poverty, even bad financial problems, don't cause clinical depression.

I sure crammed it in... do you have something more insightful to bring to the thread?

I can't see why dentists overall have the most cases of depression. The ones I have always been to were cheerful. I guess they're closet depressed.

Of course they're cheerful, cause they get to torture people for a living. They want your teeth, YOUR FUCKING TEETH, MAN!

Anyway, I don't think this shit works. I have to take anti- depressants, and I don't feel any better, because at the end of the day, I know life sucks, so why pop pills to make myself feel better? And taking pills for your pills? That's preposterous!

Hmm, I'm not depressed. I guess you'll have to give me a few more years on that.

nice side effects... i guess those depress you more

ADULTS: Nausea, vomiting, constipation, headache, dizziness, an inner sense of restlessness or need to move (akathisia), anxiety, insomnia and restlessness

PEDIATRIC PATIENTS (10 to 17 years): Extrapyramidal disorder (for example, uncontrolled movement disorders or muscle disturbances such as restlessness, tremors and muscle stiffness), headache, sleepiness, nausea

Antidepressants just sort of made me.. dead inside. I didn't get as sad, but I couldn't get as happy either. And plus I got some of the least-desirable side effects. No bueno.

A product cynically designed and marketed to make money from disenfranchised adolescents? That dulls the imagination and overpowers anyone who consumes it with a sense of abject, crushing tedium?

I'm sorry - I don't see the comparison with anti-depressants at all! :D
