Usually in the West, inflation is caused during periods of rapid growth; it is termed demand pull inflation. However, this particular case of inflation in Africa is not caused by an economic boom, but, a collapse in the economy where the money supply is growing despite a fall in output and number of goods available. Here is a humorous look at what hyperinflation looks like:

Just pasting a link in the OP with a couple of words on it isn't worth a thread.

Hyperinflation in Zimbabwe is a more-than-predictable result of Mugabe's disastrous agricultural policy. I mean, how stupid must one be to think that destruction of the well-established farm system will do any good to country's economy?

How is this different from what happened to Germany after World War I?

Hungary is a perfect example of hyperinflation.

The former Yugoslavia was also a prime example. They had notes in print that were over ten digits, and were worth nothing. They could be used to buy the .50 cent cookies sold at my school's cafeteria.

^ That one is a 10 million Hungarian Pengo, circa 1946.

Yes they did, but they scavenged them from animals that had died naturally. "Viking" is actually an archaic word for "Vegan".

Yeah, I was about to mention us. I remember carton of eggs was worth half a million dinars. People would literally pay for bread in, say, 5 stacked piles of cash. I remember this one night when I saw my dad spread out piles on the table (calculating expenses and whatnot), thinking we were rich  Man, am I glad I was a kid during those times...

But what exactly is the point of this thread?
