I just purchased a humidifier by Vicks that has "invisible moisture." Will this affect my records(LP) or cassette tapes if I have it on? My records and tapes are in my room, and I plan to use this humidifier in my room.

Thanks to anyone that can help me out!

How often do you plan to use this humidifier? What is the climate of your room? Do you have air conditioning? The bottom line is, moisture will affect things like sleeves and artwork since they are paper products. I certainly don't want to put a timetable on it and the affect it will have. It's not a desirable situation. "Keep in a cool, DRY place" is still your most effective advice.

Not a big vinyl guy myself, but humidity levels above 40-50% are not ideal for storing records as that would promote mildew growth on the album jacket and within the inner sleeves causing possible damage.

Moisture is the most dangerous for tapes. Water is the agent of the main chemical degradation process of polymer hydrolysis. As musick said, a too-high humidity level supports the development of molds that eats the pigment layer of magnetic tapes and hampers, if not completely prevents, reading information on the long run.

I think you should store your albums in other place, drier than that.
