I like asking for new music recommendations and one thing I love about this site is the "recommendations" subforum, where not only you can ask for bands on particular genres but also create threads about very specific requests.
And you know the best of all? Most of the time, they get answered pretty damn quickly!

Not everything is a sea of roses, though... If I ever want to ask about non-metal genres my threads are often let on a vacuum.
So I was wondering... Is there a site or forum like this that you can ask for recommendations in a similar fashion, except that for all styles of music? Like a music-archives?
Honestly only something like the recommendations thread would already be enough.

I want to highlight that it's essential that such site, if exists, also as the property that the questions are answered as often. A dead site, even if existent, doesn't interest me very much.

If you don't find anything, try last.fm

I'd also recommend RateYourMusic. If you register and rate some of your favourite albums, it can even recommend you similar music pretty accurately.

Seconding ironmaidens_666's rec on the Prog Archives. It's a neat site I use whenever I want to dive deeper in the prog side of music. Also found some pretty neat prog metal bands from that site as well.
