Anyone else a fan of his 1970s material?

What first caught me were a couple of live videos, notably this one from 1978, which kind of reminds me of NWOBHM:
Spoiler: show

Eventually I got the most of 1970s studio albums, they don't remind me of NWOBHM, but they are pretty cool. I'm not crazy about all the songs, but there are a lot of good ones. Also like the synth on the albums (and the live videos).

Tried to listen to the 1980s material, there were a couple of good songs on his solo albums there too, but few and far between. And the production the Van Halen stuff was unbearable. I checked out the 1997 "Marching to Mars" album, it was a bit better than most of the 1980s stuff, but nothing to write home about.

I don't even know when it came out, but my mom loves Three Lock Box so I heard that a lot growing up. Otherwise I just sorta know him as the goofy looking dude with a pretty good voice who did Heavy Metal and Dreams (which I don't care what anybody says, that's my favorite Van Halen song, I feel like I just saved the world whenever I hear it).

Hmmm, his stuff was okay, but it just sounds so vanilla to me nowadays. I used to own "Standing Hampton" when I was like 12 or 13 and it was like, decent commercial hard rock for the time, listenable and cool enough to a 13 year old who was just getting into rock music, much like Nickelback is today. But for me, it's the kind of music that just hasn't aged that well. It was decent blue collar rock n' roll but nothing special. I kind of dig it for nostalgia purposes though.

The first Montrose album is fucking great. Other than that, I'm not too familiar with his stuff... but that first Montrose album smokes.

5150 was pretty cool. So was the first Montrose album (Montrose is a god among men).

Chickenfoot ranges from mediocre to okay.

That's really all there is to say about him on my end.

Also hopefully they take it as a sign they're not meant to make more albums.
